Cooking with my mother.

My family tradition is to meet at my mothers house the night before Thanksgiving to start the preparation for the next day. My mother and I enjoy preparing the meal together and we often work out in advance on who should buy what for the meal. The night before we cut the fresh bread to be used in the stuffing and dried it overnight on the kitchen table. We then go to bed to wake early in the morning to start the meal, always around 7 am. The stuffing comes first as there is so much to cut and mix together(celery, onion, carrots, sausage, corn bread, poultry seasoning, egg, and chicken broth). Then we remove the turkey from the fridge to wash, dry and season with herb butter. Then into the oven it goes for up to 5 hours. Then it's on the fresh green beans and the rest of the side dishes. All told it's 8 to 10 hours of work but it's always worth it. Everything went perfectly this year and we all had a wonderful weekend eating our delicious leftovers.

This is a tradition we started doing somewhat recently but it is a great one. We started doing this around 8 years ago. We used to spend Thanksgiving at my aunt and uncle's but decided we wanted to try something new. My whole family on my dad's side share a cabin at Cayucos and we decided why don't we ever spend Thanksgiving there. Since then we have had the best Thanksgivings and best time with family and friends we all feel very grateful to spend this holiday at a beautiful place. -Jonah Martinus

For the last 26 years, we (My wife and I) have brought over to my parents house the most simple dish we could afford to bring when we were first married. It has now turned into a tradition with my family that cannot be forgotten. Because of this, we have had to double the recipe and on occasion even triple it.
2- 10 1/2 ounce Cans Campbell's Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
1- Cup Milk
2- Teaspoons Soysauce
8- Cans of Cooked Cut Green Beans
2- Cans of French's French Fried Onions

Heat the Oven to 350 degrees

Stir the soup, milk, soy sauce, green beans, and about 2/3 of the onions into a large enough casserole dish (we like to use a large foil pan from Costco- it makes clean up easy). Season the mixture with salt and pepper.

Bake for 25 minutes or until hot. Stir the bean mixture Sprinkle the rest of the onions on top.

Bake for another 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.

(For a Spicy kick we've put fried jalapenos into the casserole with the fried onions).
Enjoy!
