Throughout history, we saw feminism play a significant role that impacted women's rights today. Tough and courageous woman figures went against societal norms to shape history for the better. When watching these two women try to share their ideas about a set of "rules" that women should follow with regards to dating, it got me thinking. I do agree on a lot of aspects that these women demonstrate, but I also disagree with a lot of things as well. I think it is important for women to realize their self worth. I think the man does not have to approach the women and ask them out, the women can initiate the first move as well. The authors stressed on the importance of being pursued. Even though I agree with the idea of "playing hard to get" (in some situations) I do think these women took it a bit too far. For example, one of their rules were to not call the man back to make it seem like they are hard to get. If that was me, I would think the woman is not interested. Therefore, I do not think that this is a good approach. I also think that women should think as individuals and not have these rules forced upon them in society. We are all equal and deserve to make choices that make us feel comfortable. I do not think living by a set of rules philosophy will always generate a positive outcome.

I am very glad that I read this chapter for many reasons. This chapter really covered a lot of the things that I can relate to. This chapter highlights today's dating culture. Reading this chapter definitely validated my thoughts to the dating culture that I was personally experiencing. I am glad that I got the opportunity to read other people's thoughts and ideas, so I am not the only one that thinks a certain way. One of the things that I agree with is when the author said that many people in their twenties do not want a relationship because of the whole idea of being too strung down. The author explained that being in your twenties is a time for self-exploration and well as going through stages of early adulthood. I agree that many relationships can cause great stress in someone's life and prevent them from experiencing life in their early twenties. However, one thing I can disagree on maintaining the same tone throughout the entirety of the chapter. Even though I agree that dating in your twenties can be stressful, I do not always think that that is the case. The author only focused on the negative aspects of dating and viewed it as some sort of burden. However, dating promotes growth and maturity in a social lime light. Being able to accept one's flaws and communicating feelings allows partners to understand people better. It allows people to feel feelings they have never felt before. I always heard that dating is the best and worst thing someone will ever experience. Feeling the emotions of breakups, fights, falling outs, love, excitement, and happiness makes someone a better person.

Upon watching this slip and reading chapter 8, I noticed a lot of things. First off, this slip took place in the 90s. The dating culture in the 90s and right now are far from similar. This slip mainly covers feministic ideologies, but chapter 8 covers genz dating culture. The main differences were the ways people communicate. For example, even though the stereotype is that men should approach women as displayed in this slip, that changed in genz to where women can now approach men. The history of women changed over the course of the years and women have more confidence and a sense of individuality. Also, genz lives in a more social media run society while the 90s relied on telephone or face to face as a means for interactions. The only similarities that these two share is the idea that people have a hard time dating, but present itself in different ways. For instance, this slip explained that women have a hard time dating because they are unsure of who should be the initiator or who should participate more in the realm of dating. Chapter 8 explained that the dating culture has been altered too much that many people simply choose not to pursue each other for many reasons (porn, commitment issues, individualism).

This video really got me thinking about the way women think about dating. I agree with a lot of things the two ladies talked about in this video but I also disagree on certain things as well. I feel at times they were a little to harsh on men. But, I also know this video was dated and back in the day women could be that way because they were the ones staying home cleaning the house, making dinner, and watching the kids. I do believe that in this day and age women can be the ones to make the first move without it being weird, we should take power and feel good about ourselves enough to go up to a man first. I also believe that women should have their own beliefs and do things they want to do them and not have to feel like they should follow "rules" that society puts out there. Women should do whatever is best for your comfort zone when it comes to dating and relationships.

As I was reading this chapter I noticed that I agreed with a lot of what the author was talking about. I do agree that dating in your 20's can be a really tough thing. I agree that it can stop you from saving as much money as you would if you were single, it doesn't allow you to hang out with friends as much, and it can cause un-needed stress as well as take you away from focusing on school as much. On the other hand I disagree with the author because he does constantly talk about how bad it is to get in a relationship at a young age and although i did agree with the things he said I also disagree with some of them. For example I believe that getting into relationships is a good part of growing and learning because it allows you to go through different ups and downs. You learn new things about yourself and how to express emotions in different way which helps you grow as a person.

After watching this video, I honestly thought it was a little harsh, only because I found it to be very blunt and straight-forward. I do agree with some advice the women gave. For instance, when they had mentioned that the woman should NOT pursue the man, I do agree with that to some extent because I do know that some men enjoy being challenged and having women play hard to get; however, in this day and age the times have changed, and I know recently, some men do indeed find it attractive when a woman has the courage to go up and introduce herself to someone. It is all very wishy-washy because the "rules" do not apply to all men. I think this video was very harsh at times, specifically with their tone and their attitude to push men to do most of the work in a relationship. Again, times have changed and I am not so sure that this video is a good source to get relationship advice.

With the information provided in chapter 8, I would have to agree with the single aspect the author discussed. As a current college student, I do enjoy and admire my single life to focus on my education and my journey to becoming a teacher. I am not exactly striving for a serious relationship at the moment because my schedule is so jam-packed anyway; however, if the opportunity presented itself, I would not be so quick to walk away from it. I would be willing to try to be in a serious relationship. If by some chance it doesn't work out and becomes too much, then it simply was not meant to be.

I do believe that the slip and chapter 8 were different from each other. First off the slip was from the 90s and chapter 8 talks more about genz. Of course in the 90s dating culture was very different then it is now. First off in the 90s it was all about the boy communicating first and going up to the girl first. In today's world it is more popular for girls to reach out first and make the first move. Also communication it self was very different, social media was not a thing in the 90s. But in today's world that is the main line when it comes to communicating with each other or even when it comes to making the first official move in a relationship. I definitely identify more with the chapter since it is easier to relate with considering it wasn't written in the 90s.

This is because, the video was set in a time that I was not born in and therefore, I can't relate to the mindset of making the man work for you. I relate to chapter 8 more because it focuses on the IGen. For instance, chapter 8 mentions online dating and Tinder. This helps me relate more because it is discussing technology that I have used personally in the past. I have used Tinder before, so it is easier for me to realize how easy and simple it is to find a new "boo".

I think that the ideas that these girls have about dating are very over the top. In some instances playing hard to get can work and isn't necessarily bad, but only to a certain extent. There is nothing wrong with showing some interest in a guy, especially nowadays. I was most surprised at the part where they told the woman to move out when she said that her boyfriend hasn't brought up marriage yet. In this situation I think a conversation about the stage of their relationship and their future would suffice and get the point across. I also think that relationships should be 50/50 when you're in it- it's a commitment on both ends. The ladies in this video act entitled to being treated like queens when they treat men very poorly.

They make girls do the chase when it should totally be opposite way around. They mess with our heads have us waiting by the phone for a text, phone call, and FaceTime. Playing hard to get isn't a bad way to make someone want you more.. In the end if they really like you and you really like them you both will be doing the chasing eventually. You don't have to follow the "rules" to get married.

My initial reaction about the segment that is was grating. The rules that they mention are manipulated to men. I somewhat disagree about the rules. For instance about calling/speaking on certain days just act snobby. On the other, I do agree with all the chasing and playing hard to get because some men find that attractive and some men do it to women. Honestly, following those rules won't make a good, successful relationship. I didn't even know there was rules like this. However, that was back in the day and now it's a totally different world about dating.

I can see how at times during the 90's how the things mentioned in this video were trending and popular among women, but at this point in life things have evolved. Doing certain things in this video are harsh and at this day in age I think would do just the opposite of what these women are preaching. As I do agree to an extent, I agree some men find it attractive for women to play hard to get and enjoy the challenge of getting what they want, doing it this much I think would cause the man to move on.

My initial reaction to this video was that it was crazy. I am a very go with the flow, follow your heart type of person and I feel that there should be no set rules to follow with love and dating. As a girl I feel that you should be able to make your own decisions. I think them talking about how you should not stay on the phone for more then ten minutes and should not say yes to a date after a Wednesday is pointless, If you want to call someone or go out with someone you should be able to do it whenever you want to. There should be no "rules" for love and dating because everyone feels love in their own special way.

My thoughts about the chapter is that I disagree with the author when she mentions about not wanting to be in a relationship because you can develop into being your own person, being independent. Also, when she mentions about when people date young they are reliant to their boyfriend/ girlfriend and can't stay single because they need to be with someone. I dated young and never had to be reliant on my boyfriend. When I was dating my boyfriend I developed into my own person and became independent. I agree about how financials can affect people who had children. The income that was just going to you was great and lovely but having children and a husband/wife have your money not just going to you anymore.

My initial reaction to this video was I thought it was funny how serious they were taking these rules just to get a man to marry them. You can really see the difference between then and today. They say don't make the first move, don't be too nice and that's ridiculous. Today I've learned that some boys think it's a turn on when you pursue them first and they love that confidence. When they said it was really about manipulating boys they reacted like boys were objects and that's wrong. We are all humans and boys feel emotions too. Therefore, I believe that you should do what you want to do and listen to your heart. We all love differently and sometimes we don't want to be loved, it all depends on the type of person we are.

In your twenties you are still growing and getting used to adulthood but, I feel that being in a relationship shouldn't have to change that. Creating a strong relationship means that it takes two people, you should not have to rely on your partner. Being yourself and growing as an individual will help make your relationship stronger and you will have your partner by your side for support as you are going through these stages of life.

When I read chapter 8, I was intrigued because I really agreed with everything they were saying about my generation. It's interesting to see how people my age are really changing the norms. I agree that marriage is not a priority, but eventually I would like to get married of course. I truly believe that I want to have a career and be stable before I commit to someone. I thought it was funny when they mention that people can be exhausting because that's how I feel sometimes. Life is crazy though and anything can happen suddenly; you can fall in love and your "plan" of not being committed to someone can be thrown out the window. I partially disagree with having relationships in your 20s can be a distraction. It can be, but currently I wouldn't really care because I want to be in one and feel that love.

In the slip we see how marriage is so important to them and how they are making rules that will lead them into getting married. On the other hand, the reading focuses on iGen and how it's really not that important to us. We are getting married at an older age and focusing more on our career. In chapter 8, they talk about GenX and that's similar to the video. GenX were getting married at an earlier age; however not as early as Boomers. Overall, I identify more with chapter 8 because they are talking about my generation and I related to most of the things they mention. Sometimes I want the man to pursue me, but somedays I'm feeling risky and text them first. However, I'm more about waiting and focusing on myself and school first.

My initial reaction to this video is that they are right. People love mystery and love the chase. Nobody wants someone that is too easy because it's boring and takes the fun and adventure out of the relationship. Not saying everything that they said was true but mist of it is. If you sleep with a guy on the first date, most men, that's all they want. So if you give him that pleasure, he'll leave and not think twice about you. But being hard to get and making him crave more will make him interested and grab his attention. He'll remember you apart from the rest of the other women because you made him work for it. Marriage isn't everything, but if you're at that point of life where you're looking for that, then you have the right to do and act however you want to find Mr.Right. I've learned from past mistakes that being hard to get, actually works.

While reading this chapter I thought it was very interesting and intense. I agree that at some point in your teenage life you need to be single to find yourself and work on yourself. You can't be happy and rely on a relationship for happiness. Because if that relationship ends you'll lose yourself and get depressed. You need to be able to survive on your own and work through your own flaws before you put that on anyone else. Something I disagree with is that not everyone wants to be in a long term relationship. As for me, I do. I think I found someone that I will be with for a while, but for other people such as my friends, they say they have more important stuff to do than worry about a relationship. Hooking up is fun for weekends or parties, but when it comes to their future they want to put themselves first.

My initial reaction to this clip was surprise, how all these women are taking the time to read a love book. Love should be follow by heart not by reading and following what other people are doing. The author might be right in playing hard to get. But not by following the "rules girl". In the video she mentioned that you should wait at least one week to return the call back. What if you really liked the guy and by playing hard, you will lose that chance. But everyone has different views, so they should follow what they want.

After watching the slip and reading Chapter 8 I believe they both have very different view-points. I think that the time differences have a lot to do with their differences with either wanting marriage or just hooking up. A similarity they share is that most women look for a man they want to spend a while with. I believe I would relate to Chapter 8 more than the slip because even though hard to get is a good tactic, not all women want to go straight into marriage and the iGen can relate to more independent generation I live in today.

There are many times where as I guy, I feel myself where I can take on the world and ask any woman out but sometimes I also feel nervous and shy where I can't speak to any woman there is also 100 reasons why guys do not approach girls first, I have no words, I am shocked people think like this. If you are reading this, never chase anyone and don't let anyone chase after you, no one likes to play games if you are committed.

As a college student, I could not imagine fully being in a long term relationship. This matched my opinion on that when you are young you should just be having fun and not have to worry about another person.

This chapter made me realize that this generation has been selfish in a good way, we want to be independent before committing. "I am not sexually active, and I am not looking to be either." Some people make sex everything and others make it nothing, this generation found its middle balance where sex means something but not as much as previous generations. In this chapter I don't agree with "Relationships hold you from your true potential" I believe a relationship shows you who you really are and you're free to evolve off that.

I think the slip was more towards feminism, where a woman takes control of what she wants, who she wants instead of them being a choice for men they flipped the script to find a man to MARRY. Chapter 8 informs us that times have changed, we use technology to find hook-ups, but we are also not too focused on committing until we have "fun" and enjoyed life. Its hard to say which one I identify more, I have never used any dating services and I have never thought about marriage seriously before.

I agree on what the article said on the first few pages. Dating someone will sometimes distract you from your future. Or sometimes you will not experience things you wanted to do before a serious relationship. I've seen it happen to a few friends of mine. They are in a committed relationship and forgot all about what they wanted to pursue in life. On page 206, " As recently as 2007, the average high school boy had lost his virginity, but after 2009 only a minority of boys (43%) had had sex, along with 39% of girls." Why are young kids rushing on having sex. Sex should be with someone you really love.

It seems very rude and a little dishonest. It seems like they are trying to manipulate men and it from what I am seeing it seems rather toxic. I do believe that woman should be able to choose and do whatever they want when it comes to dating, If they want to follow those "rules" then by all means do what you want. I for one am not a big fan of those rules.

Honestly the video caught me a little off guard. I feel like there were bits and pieces that can apply to society now but a lot of it wouldn't. I know a lot of my guy friends said they hate it when a girl plays hard to get in a relationship because it comes off as if they feel like they are too good for them. Also a lot of the advice they were giving I feel like is unrealistic. An example being telling the girl to move out because she wasn't proposed to. I feel like the girls turned dating into more of a game then a what could be a serious commitment. I think it is ok to show a guy that you are interested because at the end of the day they have feelings too. They like a lot of the same things women do just try to put on a front as if they don't. A relationship should be 50/50 in my opinion and a lot could be fixed with simple communicate and actually talking about how people feel rather than trying to do the opposite and turn it into a game.

The girl needs to give a little spice for the guy to see you are interested. For the dating lifestyle to work you need 50/50. What I got from the video is that the guys are supposed to be doing all the work.

I found this chapter to be more interesting. There are a lot of things that I do believe and agree with in this article. I feel like a lot of people do want to wait to get into a relationship in order to find themselves and get themselves settled. I feel like our generation is a little more independent then those before and want to be able to accomplish everything they want to before they get married and settled down. Previously marriage and kids came before peoples careers however now it is the opposite. A lot of people too see a relationship and commitment as something that will hold them back from achieving everything and having fun. Something that did shock me though was how many people our age actually are having sex. I can understand the reasons behind why the percentage might have lowered but it did catch me off guard slightly. I could see it being true and accurate because in high school I felt like it was hard to find a virgin however In college it seems that its more of an equal split between the two.

My initial reaction to this video was shocking. To be honest, I found this funny because I do not think that women or anyone should play by the rules when it comes to dating. Everyone is allowed to date without any rules playing a part. They should just follow their and do what they believe is the best thing to do. I found this a little harsh because not all men should be played hard to get. I know there are guys that do like that but others enjoy to receive attention by the girl. I do not think it is right for someone to play with a mans emotions knowing that he is really into the girl. At the end of the day, everyone dates differently and that is totally okay!!

I believe the actually video clip was a little more outdated. It goes based off of the idea that women should play hard to get in order to get a man. The entire video is basically given women a set of rules to follow and a lot of them turn getting into a relationship into almost like a game. Although both things do talk about not settling for less, I feel like the second one is more so based on doing it for your own well being and not with the hope of finding someone. The article itself talks about how people are genuinely waiting because they want to accomplish things on their own and get to the right point in their life in order to then settle down while the video is basically saying to pretend like that's the case in order to trick the guy into falling for you. I agree more with the article than I do with the reading. I feel like a lot of the things in the video were stupid and a waist of time. To me it is a little more immature and could lead to more problems later on in the relationship. When it comes to the reading I do believe our generation is just more independent and wants to know they are good and settled on their own before adding another person into their life.

It has become socially accepted, and to me, that makes sense. Let people do what they want to do; if they do it safely, it is no one's business but between the people hooking up. Looking from the 70s and 80s to the 2000s, it is very different. Much easier to meet people for casual sex and hookups due to the availability of apps such as Tinder and bumble.

Honestly, I think that if someone is not interested they can let them down easily. If people get caught up in the rules too much they will forget what they were actually looking for to begin with. Also, it is okay to break rules at times. I believe that nowadays relationships do not depend on who talks to who first and everyone should shoot their shot.

My thoughts on chapter 8 are that I agree with most points that were mentioned. For example, not everyone is ready for a committed relationship. I do agree with the fact that your partners problems become yours and a lot of people are not ready for that especially for college students that want to focus more on their studies and experience the college life. However, I do not agree that "relationships in your 20's just don't work". Not everyone should have to figure their life out and find themselves in their twenties because some people may have answered those questions before the age of 20 and maybe after their late twenties. For me, I would definitely be ready for a relationship in my 20's because I have never been in a long term committed relationship before. I have spent a lot of time by myself and figuring out who I am.

There were so many stereotypes, rules, and control over women. There was so much secrecy and mystery that were implemented on women just to get a date. It was also a little upsetting to see how much women had to change themselves to revive attention from men. It felt like the "love coaches" were trying to change women and their personality or morals.

As an iGener I can definitely relate to the 18-year college student who said “I think it is not good to be in a relationship at all during college because you need to focus, explore, make money, [and] spend time with friends”. From my interpretation of the reading, it appears that the article implies iGeners prefer porn and hookups. I don’t agree with that because I don’t know anyone in my age group like that. I believe Chapter 8 does a better job with comparing the iGener’s views about relationships and dating to previous generations. The Chapter highlighted online dating and serious issues. After viewing the entire video, I still agree with this assertion. What a bunch of absolute quacks. And do not get me started on the dark-haired woman's bulging eyes-- this isn't very feminist of me, but those are crazy eyes if I've ever seen them. These "rules" are trite and they're setting women back in ways that I wasn't even sure fellow women were capable of. Though I will admit that making men suffer is a delicious temptation for me, this is not a substantial way to go about it. Honestly these "rules" were created purely to appease the patriarchy. The authors advertise them as "feminist" and as a way to "manipulate" men when in all actuality it is taking advantage of women and not allowing them to act in natural, comfortable ways. This is also not a way to gain self-confidence as women should not have to change themselves to satisfy men. All in all, this is a '90s cash grab that shouldn't have bearing on modern dating.

People our age aren't ready for something serious and don't really want to settle down. While I think college is a great place to find yourself, it should not be an excuse for random hookups for 4 years straight. I found it interesting that most iGen'ers did not believe the writer when they told them most of their generation were less sexually active than the previous generation. I find that many young adults might feel pressure from their peers to be sexually active because they assume their friends are also doing so.

The video concluded that women want to get married but most of the women they were talking about were older (20+). This is similar to the reading because, while 20 year olds might not be ready for marriage quite yet, they do want to eventually settle down. They were different in that the chapter talked about more casual hookups while the video said women should wait 6-8 weeks before engaging in sexual activity. The video also commented that you should break up with him if he didn't get you a romantic gift for your birthday or Valentine's Day. I cannot say whether I identify with one or the other more because I know that I am a part of this new generation. I agree with several points from both pieces.

I believe the only people who are genuinely surprised about this are those outside of this generation like the author. I believe the prevailing issue with this chapter is the author's intent to streamline this generation and to get answers that correlate with her own thoughts or whatever the current trend is heading towards. The problem is that while there are trends within each generation, they are unable to speak for the entire generation's attitude. It appears that teens and young adults are having less sex which has results such as lower STI rates and lower rates of teen pregnancy, but what's so significant about teens and young adults dating less? It seems to me that the author and researchers are making this finding into a problem. Sure, there are significant repercussions societally, but with all due respect, what's the actual harm? I don't believe there is any.

From start to finish, I found this video to be frustrating to watch. I think the ideas presented are extremely skewed and is just as harmful to the process of finding someone you genuinely want to be with, as well as promotes the toxicity of manipulation, because that in any form is not acceptable. It also adheres to heteronormative relationships and lack considerations for couple's identifying outside of normalized sexualities, often times leading to stigmas that are harmful to their relationships. And I agree with the sentiment that if your partner loves and wants to marry you they will and if the like you they will call you, but that dose note mean it needs to be adhered to by specific rules that are not considerate of the other persons efforts.

While reading the chapter, I found myself not being surprised by anything that I read. The trends for relationships marriage and child rates, made sense based on how society has developed. GenI has grown in its detachment to deeply connected relationships. We have also proven to be a generation of self-acualization, with more focus being but on ourselves for our wellbeing, and once we find that, translate that in a mutual and equally understood relationship.

The Dateline clip and Chapter 8 of the reading were vastly different in that the clip was about a lazy cash grab with no scientific evidence while the chapter is based in extensive research and proven sociological beliefs. The quacks on Dateline were in direct retaliation to the feminist movement of the '90s while the chapter is exploring the current generation and how technology has shaped our love and sex lives. I think the differences are clear as day. If there are similarities, they are petty (i.e. they both discuss love and marriage, etc.). Thankfully I relate to the chapter far more than the clip. If I related to the clip in any way, I would willingly get a lobotomy. Those women are a danger to society and I am thankful that my generation did not grow up with these "rules."

The reading in relation to the clip do overlap in some points, specifically when looking at ages for when people decide to go up around this time as people begin to develop different standards for finding a partner, and as generations slowly began to move a way from that in suite. It is obviously similar in the topics being discussed, love, relationships, and marriage, but rather than the article that provides information based on some controlled studies and data pools, this clip presents a very narrow minded opinion on what these people believe to be the proper way to create a relationship.

In all honesty, after watching this video from start to finish, I found the video shocking and ridiculous to watch. I understand, for instance, that it is good to play hard to get in one of the ways to get a man to want you more, but I believe there is a certain extent to that. I say this because we do live in a different generation and dating is very different now than before. Especially because our technology is more advanced now than before, as well as we have many dating apps too. And many men like when woman approach them instead because they believe it shows bravery and confidence. I would never want to ruin something so genuine and effortless with someone who I really like just because of some "rules", and would rather follow what my heart and gut is telling me to do. Something I completely disagreed with is not answering someone for 3 weeks. I understand not answering someone for a few minutes, but 3 weeks is unfair to the other person. And this representation of the "rules" all in all shows toxicity to me because you are playing around with someones emotions who is putting their heart in the line for you. It just isn't fair.

Specifically, the scene where with the advisor Sherrie and the women asking about her living situation with her boyfriend. I laughed when she told her to move out. Also when the interviewer asked her if she would consider the dating rules manipulation, and she sarcastically responded, " poor things. " All in all, even though their methods may be manipulative I respect their their philosophies. Although, I don't think that is the only and best method to getting guys attention. I feel like their advice definitely empowered women. For example she talked about not doing more than holding hands on the first date. Also about not setting for a time that is not up with your schedule.

My initial thought was that the authors in the story were trying to manipulate vulnerable women who are unsuccessful with dating. They set so many rules and taught the women how to “date”. Most of these rules were pretty toxic and forced the women to change their values and morals and for what? Just to get a date. If they get caught up in the rules too much they will forget what they were actually looking for to begin with. In my opinion, it’s okay for a guy or a girl to ask someone out. It doesn’t matter who asks first. If the person isn’t interested, they’ll just say so. I also don’t think a girl should chase a man desperately. Sure, if you like a guy, go after him but don’t be desperate to the point where you’re begging him to be with you. It takes 50/50 effort for a relationship to work. Now-a-days, the idea of relationships are very different from what these women were trying to preach.

After reading chapter 8, I found many of the information that was presented to us were very interesting. For instance, I agree that dating in our 20's can be really hard, but what I don't think that just because it 's hard and stressful, it does not mean it is impossible. At the end of the day, we all have our own priorities and if being in a relationship in our twenties is one of them, then I know that personally, I will put in my heart and effort to make it work. But I also understand that being in our 20's we have to worry about our friends, family, college, and many more things. But just because it does not work out, it does not mean it is not possible. I believe everything happens for a reason. If it is meant to be, then it is meant to be. And if not, then at the end of the day we always learn and gain something from a heartbreak, which eventually shapes us and allow us to grow as a person.

Overall, I found the information provided in Chapter 8 interesting. I liked reading the different opinions the authored included of different people and the statistics and comparisons provided. Also placing myself relative to the data of my generation, iGen, and the older generations, the Millennials and Boomers. Apparently, I am very much a GenZ, as I share many of the same experiences and opinions as others of my generation, as reported by Twenge. Also, I actually agree with many of the things he said like that cause of iGens value of safety, and cautious attitude perhaps being a link to us holding from starting and having relationships. Nonetheless, I do disagree with some of the opinions shared. Mainly, I disagree that " relationships in your 20's just don't work. " Personally, I feel like it all depends on the individual themselves as I know of many people that have had successful long term relationships that have worked out in their life. And relationships that did not interfere with their personal growth. Withal, I want to argue that it is all about balance.

After finishing the reading and watching this clip, there are few difference and similarities I was able to identify. The obvious differences I noticed is the culture of dating, because the culture of dating right now is very different from the 90's. Because it seems that we make more connections and judgments through social medias, while many in the 90's made connections and judgments through books and in person. Another difference I noticed is that many of the things that are said by the two woman in video is based on assumptions and philosophy of their own. While the information presented to us in chapter 8 is based on surveys, interviews and research. An obvious similarity I noticed was that both chap and clip speak commonly on sex, marriage, and relationship. Over all, I identify with chap 8 compared to the clip because it covered GenZ and I was able to relate to many of the topics. Meanwhile, the clip of two women is rather more opinionated from their perspective that I am not able to identify myself with.

Watching the clip, I felt like I was seeing some of the things talked about in chapter 8 as well as past reading assigned to us. Watching the clip, I was reminded of the article, The Price of being single. And at the same time I connected it to chapter 8 when the author talked about the difference in perception between generations when it comes to wanting relationships and the right time for relationships. The main difference I see between the clip and chapter 8 is the generation it focuses on also the attitude it takes on in regard to relationships. The clip centers around the desperation of women in wanting to find partners. As it covers advice and a book popular among women in the 1960's it sort of promotes having a relationship. Nonetheless chapter 8 focuses more on IGen and their philosophies and approach to partnerships/relationships. Overall, chapter 8 seems to promote more individualism and remaining single as it details the benefits. The similarities, I see from both the clip and chapter 8 are the obvious fact that they both talk about marriage and its importance to people. The clip shows the importance that it has to the women. And chapter 8 elaborates on the importance it has to the iGen generation. That said, I definitely identify more with chapter 8. Especially as it talks about looking after yourself and what is right for you. And cause it detailed topics in relation to my generation. And offered opinions and beliefs of iGen's that I was able to relate to. Compared to the clip, that elaborated on philosophies of women in the 1960's, that I personally don't think would work in the dating culture of GenZ.

I feel like due to our generation and society standards, although girls normally are still not very bold and outgoing, I feel as though no man nowadays is the way they describe they should be. I also personally felt as though it was a little harsh spoken because because nowadays relationships are completely different than they were back then, but I do find it very interesting to see how it used to be.

My initial reaction was that it seemed almost fictional. However, I can see why women would succumb to such dating practices. It is no shock that women are raised to have men ask them to dance, men ask them out, men propose, etc. These, 'rules', to me, just break down those expectations into smaller stepping stones of expectations. Yes, most of them are silly or ridiculous. However, they are also not that far off from current dating expectations. For example, girls leave guys on, 'read,' on iMessage for hours to days just to act like they are playing hard to get. There is constant talk of how much time to wait to text a guy back. Another example is how often to text/call/facetime. I think that, 'Rules,' dating is a very exaggerated approach to the already embedded traditions of dating within our patriarchal society. Not to say I agree with this, but it is no surprise to me that women will give into this. I bet men do, too.

This chapter was very interesting to read. I was surprised that iGen is having less sex and getting into fewer committed relationships. You would think with all the pressure of social media and these, 'perfect,' relationships that people would be more inclined to be like these influencers they follow (both boys and girls). Also, with all the dating/hook up apps now, you would think that they would be having more sex. I think that this might be because, and the author mentions this ideology, is that iGen is having more, 'casual,' relationships than previous generations. I liked the analogy the author gave about when you're sick and want soup: your sex-buddy won't bring you soup, your boyfriend will make you homemade soup, but your dating partner will bring you a can of soup if they have nothing else to do. This limits expectations amongst people and allows them to still have their individuality and freedom while also experiencing the benefits of a committed relationship.

I kind of identify in some time between the video and the article. I think some differences would be that iGen is clearly based on data and the video is from two authors and probably their experiences with dating men in their past. I remember seeing magazines that had the cover displaying articles titled, 'How to get him to text you back.' Also, this playing-hard-to-get style of dating is much more common than we all would like to think. Now, instead of waiting for him to call you back, it's more-so leaving him on read and checking if he's logged onto social media lately, but not letting him see that you did.
