Thanksgiving, the definition is pretty obvious. It is a holiday to be grateful for what you have. In my humble opinion however, I feel like thanksgiving in America has lost most of its meaning. First, we have to talk about the food. On Thanksgiving Day people will normally have a big feast consisting of items such as turkey and mashed potatoes. If you ask most American kids that are under the age of 10 what thanksgiving is all about. The majority of them would say it is because of the foods. I feel like it is mostly about eating and little focus is given to being grateful. And people over 10 will most likely say that it is a day to be thankful. And most of them will not even practice this. Again, people during thanksgiving most likely will do a lot of eating and shopping. Oh, wait, I forgot to tell you about the shopping. Right after Thanksgiving Day, there is a popular sales day called "Black Friday," in which nearly everything is on discount. Some people spend hours on holiday deals and shop for a long time. This usually ends up in less time with family, which adds up to the tension. Not to mention, the Monday after Black Friday is another sales day called "Cyber Monday" and hosts more holiday deals and shopping. And also, remember how I said that Thanksgiving is a day where you are grateful for what you have? Well, buying more stuff doesn't sound like being grateful. But still, many families actually have a good time and be grateful. They have fun together and are being grateful for what they have. I don't know what is happening out there. Because I have never celebrated it. Never have, and never will. This is what I view thanksgiving as.
