The company we visited is Splash, an advertising and design solutions company which provides brand development, marketing campaigns and communication strategies. They use a variety of mediums such as Posters, Videos, Social Media and many others in order to meet the needs of their clients.

2. I could see myself working in this company as i think they do interesting work. The work environment and creative process at Splash is unique and conducive for employees to produce quality work.

3. One interesting experience was trying to use their format to create a project brief. This helped us realise the importance of interpreting the client's needs, thus helping us address them effectively.

1. We visited splash, which does graphic designs mainly on posters, videos , marketing campaigns. They prefer to pick up jobs that could make someone’s life better than it already is.

2. I could see myself working in this environment as it seems to be a place where I could learn a lot without being too stressful

3. The host showed us how to break down briefs and how to even make a brief from an incredibly vague and abstract idea which includes; problem statement, objective, key message, proof point and goals and work scopes. Other than this, it showed me the different departments we have to collaborate with all the time until the end of the project which will take a Long time.

REFLECTIONS:
1. We visited the company called Splash which is a company that dies videography, photography, brand logo, advertisement. They even do campaigns and and make films of their own.

2. I could see myself working there because the environments seems so peaceful and cosy to work at. For me i would like to work in this kind of company as we can work together as a team to create something wonderful and to have fun while working which is important for me.

3. One interesting thing is that the host made us try their briefs when they have clients requests. we tried to make a brief and presented to him and the rest of my class which is something interesting. I also learnt that a good brief equals to a good design. One interesting thing i noticed at the office is that they have a lot of Vodka there which looks cool .

1] We visited two companies, Splash. and Section. Both these companies have a very subtle contrast. Variety of design aspects including video production, poster, illustration, copywriting and marketing.
2] I could see myself working in Splash whereby, it's office is spacious and it has some elements of design for their labelling of stuff such as the toilet paper holder in the toilet. For Section, it is a small office and you'd have to remove your shoes before you enter, which I wouldn't see myself doing that everyday.
3] At Splash, there was a concept for every brief where the designerns would look at the reasons why a client needs their help. This would make the designers have a better scope at how they could achieve the client's wants.

For myself, i would like to go to work in a chill and comfortable environment, which i think it will make work a fun thing to do instead of being stressful all the time

3. Something interesting about today's experience at Splash is the format of their project brief. To get to know better about what the client(s) want, it is important to know what is the client looking for, before starting on the project itself. It will make you realise some things you would have never thought of without this format

The two companies does advertising which involves areas like illustration, videography, web design and graphic design.

2) I can see myself working in Splash instead of Section as the environment and atmosphere in Splash seems more friendly and free and not in a very serious setting. Having a fun environment like Splash can keep us from being stress and this will benefit us so we can generate better ideas.

3) Something interesting was that we got to have a tour around Splash and look at what the people are doing. It was interesting to see people working on works for their clients and Adobe Premier Pro and Illustrator were on their computer. I was very interested and was also curious as to how to edit videos. The people in the creative team was working on a poster and it was very cute as the characters are all tiny. I thought to myself that i should really learn how to do that as soon as possible.

I loved the atmosphere there and the things that they do. when I saw the Singapore architect magazines that they have done, it just left an everlasting impression on me like wow I want to be able to do that too. they are more chill and like family which is something I really like. also, they do projects individually and I prefer it that way. after seeing their company, it has motivated me to work harder so I can earn a position there.

3. something interesting I saw was "rice media" which was something they kind of created. it is like a more informal social media platform for news. it is very different from all the apps that exist now and I love how creative they got with the design of the websites and the gifs.

Out of the 2 i really love TBWA the most. They have different sections that specialise in different areas to effectively solve and meet their client needs. ( to me they are more than just a advertising company they rise above!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THEM))

2) I can see myself working in TBWA!!! i love their technique in how they approach their client brief. The "disrupt" method is such an unconventional way to solve their problems. They aren't afraid to be weird and eccentric in their work! Something i really want to work with as i myself is an eccentric girl!!! MY PEOPLE I CAN BE COMFORTABLE WITH. Some may not love the atmosphere because it may be strict and very fast paced but i love it as it keeps me entertain and not get bored easily. It also gives me opportunities to push my strengths to the limits to go beyond!

3) A thing I found interesting from TBWA was how they collect data to be used in consideration when creating the face of a brand and their image.
Their method "edges" is a technique to trendspot what is currently happening in the world and using them to ensure how their client's brand can have an impact in the fast, competitive world! They also create content that can connect with people from all age groups like millennials ( who sometimes may not have the patience to watch or read an ad) what they create is so engaging that i want to replay all their works all over again.
----------------------------------------------------
I <3 TBWA MY DREAM PLACE
and hehe look at me disrupting the word disruption by covering the "dis" oops

1. Today my friends and I visited Somewhere Else and Splash.

From the past projects that they did, Somewhere Else made their design accessible for users while still having an aesthetic look to the packaging that still link to the brand. They are very sensitive to the cost and the types of materials they use to produce their print. I was really impressed with the past projects that they did for RICE and The Singapore Architect.

Splash is a company that focus more on problem solving strategies for their clients than aesthetic.
They make sure that the aims and objectives of their clients are very clear before they proceed with the project. They have done a lot of video production and design merchandise for campaigns.

2. I can see myself working at Somewhere Else :) I love the calm and cozy environment and I was drawn to the magazine cover and layout they did for The Singapore Architect. I love how they use a glossy holographic effect paper for the magazine cover to represent the "COLOUR" issue.

3. Something interesting that I learn today was that design is not just about attracting the audience with the aesthetic look of the end product but more on the whole thought process on how to make the design communicate better to the audience.

1. Somewhere else provides illustration, video editing and web design mainly. They work with illustrator and in design for most of their projects. Also, they do work on advertising and branding if needed.

2. I can see myself working in this company compared to “splash.” that I visited. This company show a more stronger and closer bond with each other. People in Somewhere else feels comfortable being together while people from splash gives off a distance feeling from one another. Other than that, Somewhere else have a clear aim of what they want their design to make others feel and have the ability to execute it. For example, the magazines they have created is so amazing and it has a story behind every detail of why they decide to design it this way.

3. What interest me the most is their working area. Even though it is much smaller than splash, it makes the environment feels very comfortable. They layout of the work station and warm lighting makes it feel at home. This make me see myself being able to work comfortably at Somewhere else, instead of splash that gives off a strong feeling of work place.

(PS: I’m in pink anyways)

1. Today we went to 2 companies; TBWA which is currently ranked the top advertising company that worked with major brands/companies such as Adidas, SIA, SC, SD. They are quite unique in approaching their client's brief in which they try to avoid the norm and went forward to take the risk and provide their best for their clients. Today, I've learned that their methodology is DISRUPTION where the idea behind it is they want to connect at the speed of culture. We also went to 'Somewhere Else' where they acknowledge themselves as a branding communication company. They have worked on a project where they redesigned The Singapore Architect book and made it more engaging for the users by changing the fonts, adding more illustrations and playing around with textures.

2. TBWA can be quite challenging to enter due to their high standards of each individual that they want to take in because they believe that they want to cultivate the best creativity of each individual that could bring it out for the company. As much as I like the concept and how successful TBWA is, I would prefer to see myself working with 'Somewhere Else' instead as I feel that my passion lies there more with their weird and quirkiness style.

3. What interest me is how the interior of TBWA is being arranged and structured. They have a total of 4 cable cars that are totally functional where the staffs could use it to interact with one another be it discussing or taking a phone call. Not only that I really love the idea how there's no hierarchy in the company, everyone were given the same work desk with no cubicles or walls placed in between each desk and everyone could interact with one another despite their position in the company. I LOVE IT I LOVE THE IDEA YES TO EQUALITYYYYYYY IN WORKFORCE!!!!!!!

We visited TBWA, a global collective internatonal advertising agency, as well as Somewhere Else which is a brand consultancy and they do branding, physical & digital.

2. I can see myself working in Somewhere Else as I really liked that it is a small office as compared to TBWA which is intimidating to me. Also, the office and the people portrayed the office to be a very relaxed and chill environment to work in. I think I could work comfortably in Somewhere Else and enjoy it even.

However, I really liked how TBWA did their projects as they strive to be different from other people in their work and I think that is what makes them special and if I was a client, I would choose to go to TBWA as their works are successful.

3. What interest me is Rice Media which they designed and produced. I liked how they put in so much thoughts and ideas to make Rice attractive to make people want to read it through little details and designs such as the colourful gifs and the reading bar on the top to let you know how much through the article you have read. Its the little details that improves the experience and I like how they put that into consideration in their works.

1. today, we went to Somewhere else and Splash. , both of which we were presented talks to. Somewhere else provides services that includes branding and advertising. Splash. is similar in the services they provide too.

2. I would hope to work in Splash. more than in somewhere else due to the environment they work in. There are more people in Splash to work with and based on what I saw today, I assume that the projects Splash. covers are more diverse and versatile. I saw that their projects involved producing items for the youth and even ads that are often seen in public. This would broaden my portfolio if I were to intern there. As for somewhere else, the company focused on smaller projects that were not as well known. But they details that they out into their projects such as the Singapore Architect magazine had a clear aim of making the audience more interested in the easily accessible data. However, both companies emphasised on the importance of thinking for the people.

3. What interests me was the idea that design isn't so much about how something looks like I have always thought, it is more about how a certain thing works and good design is how this thing can work the best, as shared by both companies we visited today.

TBWA Singapore is a company that works and develops on brands for famous companies such as Singapore Airlines and Standard Chartered. Somewhere Else is a brand consultancy company that helps shape brands like RICE Media and Asics (Singapore).

I can see myself working in Somewhere Else as I really like its cosy working environment, which is a total opposite from TBWA Singapore. Some of their major clients include the Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism Board, and Sony Playstation. Next, we visited Somewhere Else, which is a brand consultancy and provides branding services both physically and digitally.

2. I can see myself working at TBWA as it provides a very structured and holistic system that ensures that their interns grow throughout their journey in TBWA. The competitive spirit of the company that strives to be unique and the best is what first attracted me. In addition, we were told that the interns are treated like full-timers so everyone who joins them is valued as a talented individual who can contribute to their company. This would force me to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to create something out of the ordinary.

3. I found watching the works produced by TBWA the most interesting section of the trip. Their advertisements leave a lasting impression on me which once again, proved that they are unlike the others and succeeded in advertising the brand. My favourite work of theirs is for the Singapore Tourism Board, whereby they made references to the TV series, Justin Bao to urge the viewers to buy travel insurance.

1. The company we visited today was Splash, they started off as as a graphic designing firm and are now doing advertising. They also provide services such as branding, short films, video production, etc....

2. I can see myself working at this company as it provides a great platform for me to expose myself to experience the essence of design, in this workforce. They provide great opportunities for young designers like us to further develop and nurture our skills, with a variety of services provided for us, I think I will be able to learn so much more than anywhere else.

3. The most interesting about today’s activity was when the host asked us to create our own briefs based on a topic. I also learned that a good brief = a good design, and we should not expect a perfect brief! Each time we get a brief, we must look into it and question it before getting it started. This helped me to understand the importance of having a brief before handling a project as it helps me in understand the client’s needs and address to their problems.

1. We started with Section, a digital agency company, then headed to Splash, that started out as a graphic design company to doing video production as well. Both providing services like illustrations, poster design, video, and marketing campaigns, they differ slightly with Section focusing more on the digital advertising side as to Splash, that focuses more on communication strategy to solve their clients’ problems over its aesthetics.

2. I can see myself working in a company like Splash because I think it is a good place for me to have a good practice behind problem-solving, applying and various design methods, while also crafting a “bigger picture” for my own design mission. Here more than anywhere else, is where I feel would be most beneficial to my journey of becoming a better designer for myself and the community.

3. When a client gives you a project brief or not, you must always find a way to create one. It is important to truly understand what they need in order to solve the problem and not necessarily giving them what they asked for, but what is effective for their cause.

They play hard and work harder and believe in work-life harmony instead of balance. Hence, the many bottles of vodka and ‘flexible’ working hours.

Reflection:
1. The company my class and I have visited is SPLASH. This company does graphic design focusing on brochures, posters, videos/animation and marketing campaigns. They prefer to take up jobs that promote something good for society or make life of others a better one.
2. I can see myself working in the company as the workers there are friendly and seem close with one others due to there being no borders or walls to separate them from their different sections of their company. Thus, I could learn lot from them without being in an stressful environment.
3. I found that the 'library' of the company is said to be bigger than normal than other companies despite it being extemely small compared to a normal library. But the most interesting is that there were alcohol bottles places of the shelves and table in the 'library' corner. I hope to achieve their level of creavitvity and thinking as to why they put prohibited items in a area of study/research.

I didn't really expect that design studio would look fun and not the boring normal office i thought of. For example, in SPLASH, they have their own mini library where the designers can read up anything that is related to designs and also about marketing and etc. They also have some other activities to allow the designers there to destress after working for long hours.

1.We visited Splash, a local creative media design company that provides services such as Video production, brand developement, film and animation and marketing campaigns to company and clients that are interested in creating projects that requires brochures, kits, posters or help in developing their brand image etc.

2. I can see myself working in this company. They have a cohesive and creative environment where I would love to work in the future. Furthermore, I am very much in favour of their mission to enhance singaporean lives through effective brand communication, to solve problems and issues in singapore. This company provides a place for individual designer to display their talent and interest instead of being told (for example) that a copywriter will work mostly on illustration only. The company also had a video production team which is not common in other graphic design companies in singapore. So working in splash, I am able to learn a different side of visual communication.

3. The company works closely with their clients using project briefs that they have designed. The briefs are collected informations which includes, the key message, objective, goal and issue etc. that can help better understand what they need to tackle and work on to achieve that certain goal. We did a mini exercise on how to work with their project briefs which has helped me better craft an idea. This brief is very useful and i see myself using it. Also, I love their work environment, it is a creative space and stepping into it made me feel so comfortable and inspired.

1. For Somewhere Else, they helped and provided client with their branding and identity. They really focused on the user experience, they wanted not only to convey the desired message, but to also include experiences and a lot of designs which relates back to the main topic they were trying to bring across to the reader. As for splash, they specialised in videography and branding too.

2. Both companies had their pros and cons. For somewhere else, they had a small studio and a small group of people working together. Therefore they were more as a family rather than just friends. Splash meanwhile had a big environment, therefore they were able to fit in pool and Table Tennis tables for the designers to play for a break. They also had mostly 'parties' to celebrate the last Fridays for each month and they had drinking sessions between themselves whenever they felt like losing up (not that I recommend drinking ahem). As for the projects Splash do have fun and interactive? projects that they take on, which of course is intriguing. Somewhere Else meanwhile focuses a lot on user experiences and I guess attention to detail. So therefore I do see myself working there on either companies !

3. I felt that Somewhere Else was really an interesting experience. It was located at a very small shop house and the studio wasn't that big but it felt very cozy. For me, I felt like they had an attention to detail for each project they did. For example when showing their work for the Singapore Architect magazines, they were showing the different cover they had did, and all of these cover not only looked super aesthetic, but rather relates back to the idea they were sharing about in that issue. This shows that they do have an attention to detail and really cared about the user experience such that the user is able to touch and feel the magazine and evoke their sensory.

1. We visited Splash which is known as an advertising agency but what sets them apart from other advertising agencies is that they also produce videos. They usually do marketing campaigns by working with clients.

2. I can see myself working there as the work environment at Splash is relaxed even though they still get work done, Furthermore the team of more than 20 in Splash seem to be very welcoming which further entices me to work in this company.

3. One things that made the experience more interesting is that we were given a chance to try to craft a brief using the way they taught us. After crafting the brief, we were asked to present our briefs group by group. This is where I learnt that having a good brief allows us to make a good design.

Brief are the most important thing that we have to understand before proceeding. We went for a short studio tour and witness how the employees are working at and i was really amazed of their work.

1. We visited 2 companies!! Section & Splash. Both companies don't focus only on graphic design but they also do advertising, branding and video. Both of them work on different types of media like posters, banners, websites and social media postings like Instagram as a form of marketing technique.

2. I can see myself working in either of those companies because both of them do similar things and the environment of the companies are really warm, friendly and cozy. It's not just about work but also being able to find passion and love in the things they do; which is something I really stand by and admire. Also, they're not afraid to explore different things and justifying themselves to clients. Instead of constantly listening to the client and following what the client wants strictly according to the brief, Splash & Section try their best to justify their designs/work, having the utmost pride in the things they do.

3. Something interesting about Section & Splash was that at Section, they try to make their works more interesting by using storytelling methods instead of the usual instructional designs. They showed us various types of works and how they compare the audience engagement between certain social media posts that they curate for a client. They had us to try and guess which one had more social media engagement which was really interesting!!
For Splash, they held somewhat an activity for us to take part in where we had to create the project brief ourselves. They taught us that a good design always starts with a good brief, a solid foundation to work with. We were asked to be as creative as possible and to present our works to the audience.

I can see myself working at SPLASH as its working environment is open spaced and cohesive. It allows the teammates to be able to communicate easily. Both of the companies do advertising work for their clients which includes doing videos, creating and managing content on their social media platform, graphic design and various illustration work to promote their client's business and to create a brand presence for them.

2. I can see myself working at both Section and Splash because they offer a very flexible, cozy and friendly work space and work environment. Everyone working at both companies are very passionate about their work and do not mind working extra to complete their work which is something that i admire. Therefore, i would want to join a work environment like that, so i can see myself working at both companies.

3. At splash, we were given a project brief template and we were supposed to fill in the blanks around the topic of SD Open House 2019 and we were supposed to present our finished project brief. From this, i have learnt that a good project brief is crucial in order to design something that the client wants.

Share something interesting about your experience at this company.
It was interesting that splash introduced fun elements to their workspace eg the pool table and the hammock. It shows that we can have fun while doing work too. We also learnt that it is important to not just think about the visual aspects of a project, whether it looks aesthetic or not. We should understand that to solve an existing problem that the client is facing should be of upmost importance.

Kristen Mah
1)What kind of creative services do they provide?
TBWA\ mostly does advertising and campaigns. They design advertistments and come up with unique campaigns using a method call Disruption.
2) Can you see yourself working in this company?
Yes, i can. I really like how they are always striving to be different and out of the norm. They also do not have desk cubicles and have an open concept office space as a sign that there is no hierarchy in the office. I really admire their work as well. Everything that they produce is of top quality and i want to be able to do that too. However i feel that i might work a little better in a smaller company as i enjoy a small family-like company where everyone knows everyone as i feel big agencies might feel a little too overwhelming.
3) Something interesting?
TBWA\ gave us a very in-depth talk about themselves and exactly what they look for in interns which was rathet unexpected, i thought they would just give us a short introduction. But it was surprising and very enlightening and they gave away a lot of hints to us if we ever intend to apply for an internship there
