Comparison between iMovie and Premier

"When comparing Adobe Premiere Pro and iMovie, you can actually see which Video Editing Software product is the more suitable option. This ensures that your company can get the most productive and effective software. You can study the details, for example available tools, prices, plans offered by each vendor, offer terms, and more We also let you check their total scores to know which one appears to be more suitable. Adobe Premiere Pro has 9.6 points for overall quality and 97% rating for user satisfaction; while iMovie has 9.5 points for overall quality and 95% for user satisfaction. Likewise, you can also check which software business is more dependable by sending an email request to both and see which vendor replies sooner. At this time, the leading solutions in our Video Editing Software category are: Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro."

https://comparisons.financesonline.com/adobe-premiere-pro-vs-imovie

In my opinion, using iMovie was a lot easier and i understood the programme a lot easier. The availability of iMovie was a lot easier we were able to use this system on our laptops at any time. Where as, premier was different as we needed certain computers to use this was one of the biggest reasons we used iMovie it was more flexible so we could adjust sections at home and in the studio where we can sit all together and evaluate.

Evaluation

In this evaluation, i will be evaluating my groups music video and the process we went through to get the final outcome. With the research i have been doing over the past few months i will have plenty of material to compare our piece to. This is something that as a group we have never done before the main aim for our group was to break boundaries as in our opinion, music videos at this current time are predictable and dont have different content in that we feel is put under breaking boundaries. This is something that we feel needs to be put back into dance for camera at this current time. We got to practice our skills with a practice dance for camera where we got to perform and record each other in partners. From this practice we got to understand the importance of having as much information on storyboards as possible to help the peer recording. From this i knew i had to add more detail and notes so its easier to understand and film. I also need to make sure that my times add up and make sense in terms of not overlapping each other. So with all these pointers from the practice film i was able to make the adjustments and change the factors that didn't go well for the main filming of film number two.I measure the success of the music video by how professional the video looks. For example, making sure that all shots are in focus and link well using technics that are being used in current videographers. I also measure the success from the video by how professional the actors and dancers are during the recording, showing skills and performance. Dancing to a camera is different to dancing on stage or in class. Finding the correct angles and eye line is even more important when recording. As they move clip to clip making sure that the focus is in the same position is important or the flow won't be right and will look unprofessional. If i had to evaluate the process of this dance for camera i would say that we needed to be a lot more organised. An issue that we faced was the camera dying. Next time we record in public especially in the cold weather we need to take extra batteries. Being prepared on set is something that we needed to be. In my opinion, i feel like we needed to be more organised and had a practice shoot at the location, so we will be prepared for lighting. From a practice run, we would also be able to figure out how quickly the battery is used.

When watching our final piece back i am extremely happy with the outcome and how professional it looks. Although, i can pick little factors that would make the dance for camera perfect, i will be going into these in this evaluation. One of the main issues that i feel like we had was not having an extras. We relied on members of the public being okay with being recorded and being apart of our dance for camera. This was an issue when shooting different shots, as we just saw flashes of members of the public and we never see them leave which didn't make it any sense. To improve, we should have actors as extras to set in the scene so they would sit through all the takes. I believe that this will make it look more professional and will flow better in terms of the scene. We also had to make little changes to the choreography when on set due to the space at the station, if we went and had a practice we would be able to plan for this. Therefore, we needed to make slight adjustments as a group. In terms of breaking the boundaries i feel like we could of explored with this more and use more unique material. For example, use different styles of dance in different parts of the station. When editing the videos, me and Lucy found that some shots were out of focus, which is something that was annoying as we had to use them to complete the dance for camera. This is something that we should of realised when on set and make sure that we didn't need to retake any shots. When doing is again i would suggest that we take a laptop on set so we can watch the videos on a larger screen making sure that we are happy with every shot not guessing and hoping for the best.

When i look back on my roles of this dance for camera i feel like my contribution was good and i was involved in all of the factors that make this dance for camera. I do feel like as a group we worked well together getting everyones opinions and thoughts and trying them out. I believe that my professionalism was positive throughout throughout the lead up and then all on set. We managed to tackle the issues out as a group and made it the best we could, with the knowledge we have from the research and practice sessions.

We sat down as a group and came up with the idea and the vision that we wanted to portray in our dance for camera. We looked at the top 40 music videos to see what was the modern in trends were in the videos. We came across a lot of music videos that were very pedestrian and then had spots of choreography. The styles of dances that are in the videos are very mixed. We found that comparing music dance for camera to 5 years are extemely different to how dance for camera are made today. For example, chandelier by sia, this really challenged the industry into something that is just based upon contemporary dance. The piece has dance content in from start to finish. Where as, after our research we feel like music videos are more pedestrian and less set/performed.

Week One- 28th November 2018

This week we started to note down ideas that we could potentially create for our final piece. We noted down a few different ideas...
-Bullying scene
-Industrial building site
-Scene in a school
-Typical scene on a train platform
Our final decision, was to create a scene at a train station showing the different stereo types at a translation. As a group, we decided to create a dance for camera with this idea as we thought that we would be able to break the boundaries using the whole of the location. We have decided that we want to go and have a look around train station, then we can plan and choreography easier. Although, we started parts of the choreography and decided as a group what song we wanted to create the piece to. We wanted a song that had a continuous beat that was repetitive throughout the piece which matched the train sound at the station. When we watched a few music videos that are in the top 40 the repetitive songs were the ones that stayed with us and were catchy, which is successful in terms of the industry. Having a repetitive song, which dance for camera is pushing boundaries, is something that stands out in the industry to me. Also, when you look at the views on music videos you can see the most amount of viewers watch videos that are pushing boundaries and are different to the standard dance music video. A standard music video is something that we discussed when planning the piece. The industry is changing all the time and is something that can link to events that have happened in the world at the time For example, "Bandaid30 Do they know its christmas time" this video is showing us the tragic disease that ebola had in Africa. This shows the power of music videos and how much power it has on the public and the help and awareness it gives out to the public. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w7jyVHocTk

As a group, we wanted to make the video pedestrian which the makes the contemporary dance stand out and acts as the climax. We liked the idea of repetition which then links with the song nicely. We will keep the outfits very pedestrian and make sure that they link with the characters that we are portraying in the film, the pedestrian side of the video will then make the dancing sections stand out as breaking the boundaries. In terms of breaking boundaries, we wanted to mix different styles of dance together with pedestrian movements. This is something that isn't really used in the industry and is something that we wanted to experiment with as a group and see if it fit well and was visually aesthetically pleasing.

This week our main aim was to create our storyboards with all the information so that the opposite group will be able to record the video just using put storyboard with the correct directions. There are four of us in the group so we all divided the sections and did part of the story each for example...
Lauren- Illustrations
Lucy- Timings
Sharleigh - Camera Angle
Dawn- Notes of movement
With our research we managed to use a variety of camera angles and shots. We wanted to make it as professional as possible. We struggled with the timings estimating the times was the hardest thing and we actually danced the sections and timed them and used rehearsal videos to help us get the most practical time.
We also took a trip to the train station to have a look and evaluate where we would record the shots. We took photos of the areas so we would be able to set the location on the storyboard. It would also help with the choreography, knowing how long we would be able to travel for and where the busy parts of the parts were. We wanted to get an all clear on being able to perform and record due to health and safety reasons. We took a visit to the main office at the station to get the all clear that we could record or piece there and got a little bit of a background to see when the busiest times where so we could get extras in the film.

This week our plan was to record all of our storyboard. Unfortunately, due to technical issues(camera battery dying) we had to stop half way through our storyboard. This was something that we didn't plan and couldn't be helped. The camera was fully charged when we left to record at the translation. We think that the cold weather didn't help the charge as it dropped massively. So due to this we had to plan another day to record the rest of the piece. We had lots more factors to think of the second day recording as we all needed to be wearing the same outfit with the same hair style and makeup. As little details like this will make it look unprofessional and not a quality dance for camera. We also needed to make sure that we record the rest of the clip at the same time of day so the lighting would be the same. We also needed to make sure that the other group were free to record and help us in the process as we didn't plan a second day of recording. Issues that we faced over the past two days were the pedestrians in the station. We took a lot of shots for every step on the storyboard which meant that people were walking around sitting and standing in the clip. This was something that we couldn't help but was something that we only thought about when on the shoot. After the second day, we managed to finish the shoot.

We were disappointed with how many clips were out of focus. This task only took about an hour which we were shocked about and planned more time to do it. I will now be able to sit and evaluate the music video and the process.

We sat and all had a meeting about the kinda style of music videos we all enjoyed to watch and how we could incorporate this into our own music video. The style of choreography that me and Lydia are most comfortable with is ballet/lyrical ballet, this is something that we felt was important to know when choosing a song. We all spoke about how in music videos are mainly based with contemporary dance and lyrical jazz isn't used a lot. As our main aim for this piece is to break boundaries, we are challenging ourselves as a team and using this style as our theme. The greatest show came up a lot through our conversations and was something that we were all keen to focus on as a group. Musical theatre themed songs aren't normally used for music videos, so we were up for the challenge and were stuck between a few to pick from. The options were...
-This is me
-Never Enough
-A million dreams
This was a hard decision as we had a different vision for a lot of the songs, so just picking one song was extremely hard.
We came to a mutual decision of picking Never Enough. We believe that we are able to have a narrative along choreography, telling a breakup story alongside the song. The team, didn't really understand the thumbing of the different styles of dance. This is something that i made sure was rectafied before going ahead and planning the piece. We described the styles as well as showing the team clips on youtube of the different styles.

After doing our research we felt like classical ballet/lyrical jazz is a style thats not been used in current music videos at all for a long time. The music videos are based heavily on contemporary dance, urban and hip hop.The latest video that has used classical ballet style within there music video is a song called shake it off by Taylor Swift. This uses a mixture of styles as well as classical ballet, but isn't just ballet based. In my opinion, the music video is refreshing and different to the other typical music videos that are shown in the current music video industry. As a team we want to make sure that we are creating a music video that is different and out the box and is something that isn't expected to be seen in the current industry.

Choreography for our music video...

As stated in the planning we have decided to dance in the style of ballet/jazz lyrical. This is something that we feel needs more than just two dancers in the music video, a few more dancers, would allow us to create a stronger look. Me and Lydia have decided that we want to include three more dancers. The camera team will then be able to get the image that "Runaway" has when filming from a higher angle. This angle is something that we are all really wanting to be in ur piece as its a technique that shows the scene from a unique angle. In terms of planning the length, we have decided that we want to keep the length if the song and create 3 minutes and 28 seconds of work.

Choreographic devices-
Throughout this 3 minute 28 seconds piece we use many different devices that we feel would be most effective on camera.
-We used levels throughout the piece of choreography as a group. We feel as choreographers, levels are extremely effective. The different levels show the location in different angles. Adding different levels make the piece look aesthetically pleasing and interesting. Having a piece that stays at one level can be boring and very static, travelling at different levels adds interest and more depth to the choreography.
-Unison, is a device that we used within the piece. We wanted to create a busy feel to the piece then the climax will be a unison section where we needed to dance in complete unison to get the full effect that we imagined when setting the piece. If unison is performed at a high level in the music video it looks professional and makes the video look at a high standard. Unison also shows the closeness of the girls creating a connect, which is what the song is based around.
-Canon, this is something that we feel will have a massive impact in the music video as it will break up the unison section and will be an unexpected device to use.
-Solo work, is something that we wanted to include as it allows more attention on the singer and all of the solos build up to a group section. The solos are all performed in the quiet, low key parts of the song the group pieces are performed in the climax parts.
-Fragmentation, is another device that we have used throughout the choreographic process. This is a development of the motifs and this adds interest and shows the choreography in a different view and dynamic.

In these next few lessons, we need to make a strict plan on what we need to sort out for each lesson. As we are involving different students from different levels, we need to make sure that everyone is available and organised for certain dates. We also need to make sure that they are able to come out of there college lessons for film with the team.
In today’s session we decided that we were going to plan the style and movements for our choreography and start the piece. We also need to choose the dancers that we feel will suit the style the best and are available on the day that we plan to record the piece. This date is something that we can’t change due to the location bookings, so we need to find dancers that are available on this specific day. We were able to get in contact with the three level 3 girls and we were lucky enough to hire them. We checked with their tutor and they were able to leave their lessons to come and record for us. We then planned to have a three hour rehearsal the next day, in our free time to learn all the choreography. We recorded this in the studio so we can remember this choreography. The choreography is something that can be changed depending on the size of the location that we find.
We have been able to fit in a few lunch time rehearsals, making sure that we all have it in our movement memories and become more confident with the choreography each time we rehearse it. We really focused on the formations making sure that the singer in the middle is the key feature of the music video. We wanted to make sure that throughout the music video the singer is seen and nobody will be blocking her whilst dancing. By the end of this rehearsal i feel like all the dancers are confident and i believe we only need one more rehearsal before going and filming at the location. As a group we looked at the different options of costumes that we could potentially use and what we feel suited the piece and style of the song. We came to the conclusion of a long black tutu skirt sand a red and black leotard. The singer in the middle, is wearing a long black dress with sparkly details. We felt like this all went well together and had a theme to it. We didn't want to have costumes that were over the top as we wanted the piece to be understated and focus on the storyline and the singer. The lighting that we are going to be using is multi coloured so we didn't want a coloured costume that would clash with it or make it look slightly childish. Our initial idea was to have a pastel colour lyrical dress, but we felt like the final decision was more suited towards the piece and the red leotard would stand out in terms of the black set. The classical ballet tutu would really bring in the style of the piece and help create the theme.
We planned to meet a few days before filming making sure it was clean and looks in unison. After an hours rehearsal we felt like we were confident and ready to perform the piece on set. This rehearsal we invited the camera students to watch so they know what style and formations we are perfuming in. They also recorded us in the studio so they were able to finish there storyboards. They were happy with what we created and as a group we didn't have to change anything. We just need to work on making sure that our legs are all at one height and eyeline is the same making sure that the movements are 100% in unison.

To find an empty warehouse was extremely difficult and making a discussion on the final location was hard. We made lots of phone calls to warehouses but we couldn't find what we need or a warehouse available. We need a few locations for our music video sets...
-Warehouse
-Restaurant or cafe
-Outside with a nice view
-Office or reception area
We thought to make the filming process go a lot smoother and easier, we would use the college restaurant, as all the equipment and students will ready be here. The mulberry restaurant in college is the exact sort of location that we wanted so this was an easy decision. This links to the outside location, outside of the mulberry restaurant there are two blossom trees where we could get the image that we want. The reception area at the college is the perfect setting for the scene that we are wanting to record. The warehouse was the most challenging location to find. In terms of transport we were fine with traveling it was just finding somewhere that was available to use. WE the had the idea of using a storage block that a peers family owned. This was available and can be blacked out easily.

As dancers, we dint realise that this is something that can be done by the media students. Over the next few weeks the media students will be discussing how they can potentially copy the lighting. We loved the way the singer was the main focus then was embellished with dancers around her. This is something that we wanted to take from that and make that our own.
