My name is Barbara Martinez although many people call me Barbie, I am currently in my junior year of high school. I was born in Artemisa, Cuba and grew up there until I was 8 years of age which is when I moved to the United States. Some of my hobbies are shopping, quality time with my friends and family, and traveling. I'm a little bit of a picky eater but my favorite food is Mexican food. I watch a lot of shows and movies in my free time but the show that I always come back to and really stuck out to me has been Dynasty and my favorite movie is Anyone but You. I haven't explored most food spots around Miami but one of my favorite restaurants is El mesón de pepe in the Keys. The ambience of the restaurant is very nostalgic to my Cuban home country and the food reflects the same. The restaurant has been around since 1985 and the years of cuban cuisine are reflected through the intricate menu. I would say the coolest place to check out in Miami is downtown and Brickell because it has many areas where you can walk around and different activities including eating and picture spots.

My plans for the future are to graduate with my associates and major in psychology at FSU. Psychology is a career I've always been interested in and FSU has one of the best programs in Florida so it has slowly turned into my dream school. Within the field of psychology I would like to pursue clinical psychology, treating emotional or behavioral disorders. Helping people who genuinely struggle with their own minds and help them better themselves with different kinds of treatment. If this plan doesn’t work out i would like to do forensics and be a crime scene analyst.

Something I'm proud of is being good at school and always getting classes which I know are a higher level than my grade. Being a little ahead of where I'm supposed to be or having advanced classes is something I've always been proud to say because I finish my requirements earlier. One of my accomplishments is passing all of my AP tests and classes because I believed it was a really hard but got caught by surprised when i scored higher than a 2. One of the accomplishments I look forward to doing is graduating with my associates and a lot of my credits or classes done. My strengths I would say are reading and history although I can get a little stuck when I'm writing I don't consider myself too bad at it and enjoy both of those subjects extensively. My weaknesses are math and writing when I'm not passionate about the topic at hand or don't necessarily have an opinion on. I think it is important to constantly improve and better yourself even at things I’m not usually good at. I am always looking forward to improvement and also wanted to take this class because I believe that writing takes part in every subject or is overall a big part of school so I would like to improve on the way I write and the structure of my essays.

A moment where I felt on top of the world was this whole vacation to the keys because of how many activities and new experiences I had. On this trip my family and I did things I was excited to try but had never done for example kayaking, jet skis, and going to a coral reef. I really love adrenaline and each of these things gave me the right amount of excitement while also being a completely new feeling. Crossing three things I was always so curious about off of my list all in the same day gave me a new feeling of high in life. I felt on top of the world when riding through the waves, almost tipping over, and seeing the most beautiful reef was right under us the whole time. I truly discovered so many things at once in that day and I found my experience truly amazing.

While I have embarrassing moments on a daily this is one of the most recent ones and only I can remember as of right now. Over the summer I went to one of the parties being hosted and still cringe about this night whenever I remember it. I was walking into the backyard with my friends and there was this square shaped drain on the floor which I did not see and one of my legs completely went into it. I ended up in spider man position on the floor except one of my legs was inside a drain instead... it took 3 of my friends to pull me out. Partially falling down a drain in the worst, most people filled place is a core memory I will never forget and definitely one of the highlights of the night.

We have just begun the year in this class but this first assignment I find very creative and introductory to the class. I feel it's a way for all of us to get to know each other very in depth even outside of school. In future assignments I would like to write about interesting and highly talked about problems, prompts I know about and read interesting books i’ve been curious about.
