The pathogen that causes syphilis is a bacteria called "Treponema Pallidum". There are several types of syphilis, but the "primary" is the one I will mainly be discussing. The first symptom is called a chancre, which is a sore where the bacteria went into the body. There can also be a rash all over the body. If the disease goes untreated, it can damage your eyes and brain. Babies that are born from women infected with syphilis often times have no symptoms. There are babies that have some rashes, deafness, and even tooth deformities. The long term affects of syphilis are minimal if treated. If it goes untreated, it can cause brain damage, problems with the nervous system, and even death.
