Solidarnosc Movement was a nonviolent movement that faught againts their communist goverment at the time, the movement officially started when the goverment took the parlementary elections away; it took three decades to establish the Solidarnosc as an organization and movement in 1980.
Solidarity still had roots in trade unionism which exposed the communist regime to its false claim of a free work state. In the end the movement created its own alternative political space where people could flourish. Both their nonviolent decipline and their self imposed limitations played a big part with their peaceful transfer to power in 1989. But despait their efforts and achievements the organization was crushed in december 1981.
The movement never took a violent turn which was decided by deliberation.
Solidarnosc movement itself was not very organazied nor did they have enough power to overtake their communist goverment comepletly, the people managed to bring together millions of people but just by the unions existens underscored how bankrupt the poeple were because of the communist system.

Mark Kramer.
