Good start Divya. It is interesting that you use Delacroix's "Liberty Leading the People" to support #2. Among other things, it certainly sets the birth of modernism into the 1820s--and there are many scholars who believe exactly that. Also, in the Armory Show in NYC in 1913, the organizers started the idea of "modern art" with Delacroix and the Romantics.

With principle #1, a good one, make sure you think through the ideas. Is being different just to be different being modern? For that matter, is art that is simply different and unfamiliar a prior good art or modern art?

Consider the different issues of, for instance, experimentation with new mediums, techniques, technologies and subjects. Think about the role of shock. In 1978, Robert Hughes created a TV series (with book), "The Shock of the New." Does being modern suggest being surprised, shocked, disoriented, challenged?
