Firstly, I have attached some important literature/models for you to read through.

Hopefully with your teaching from Module 4 and with the reading from task 1, you are feeling a bit more fluent in what a whole school approach could look like. So, it's time for you to give it a go...
Feel free to use either of the models attached to task 1, or research a fresh one of your own. your task is to create an ideal Whole School Approach for what a Mentally Healthy school could look like. I have attached an example approach, which you are welcome to work from, however, it doesn't need to be anywhere near as detailed as this.... This is an approach and policy that a primary school in Devon have kindly let us work from.

It would be helpful to keep in mind that this whole school approach was created by teaching staff, however, you guys have the added benefit of coming at the approach from a clinical MH background too. So it would be great to see how you can incorporate your teaching so far, particularly with reference to what you have learnt so far in Module 5 on Peer mentoring intervention, Psychoeducation and Training others linked to bullying and social media.

Once each group has created their ideal school approach, please attach it on here to share with everyone.

Remember this is YOUR ideal whole school approach, so feel free to get creative and use ideas and concepts which you have gained from working in your schools so far.

Now that you have completed your very own WSA, it would be good to think about how you might go about discussing the benefits of a WSA to your schools.

Think about how you could use your understanding of having a WSA to help support your schools in relation to your peer mentoring intervention, psychoeducation and training others.

In your groups, come up with some key points that would help to form an argument for the need to have a WSA in your schools.
Split your key points into these three categories;

1- How a WSA could benefit the school when thinking about psychoeducation.
2- How a WSA could benefit the school when thinking about the peer mentoring intervention.
3-How a WSA could benefit the school when thinking about training others.

Please share your key points on here for each section.

With this in mind, a WSA needs to be implemented incrementally, gaining commitment from all levels of school government to make sure that the approach is not diluted. Weare (2015) has also noted that sometimes schools are more likely to favour programmes that are easier to implement, whereas a WSA is complex.

A WSA can benefit the school when thinking about the peer mentoring intervention as part of the WSA is listening to the students voice and ensuring they have a say in the design of the school's mental health provision. Also a school where mental health is an integral part of the ethos will increase the likelihood of CYP's wanting to be mentors and responding to the programme. Therefore the WSA approach emphasises that everyone needs to be a part of it in order for it to work. It also ensures that the topics approached are specific and relevant to the mentees. Although most schools have a thorough PSHE curriculum, it is difficult to fit in or adapt topics to suit everybody's individual needs. So this more specific needs can be met through peer mentoring.
