Learning alongside peers is always a treat. Unfortunately, learning in the online space tends to eliminate the human to human interaction that makes learning alongside peers so impactful. I was very happy that AVID is prepared to address these typical digital pitfalls with some truly engaging, research-based practices. I found this platform easy to use. Moreover, I felt the collegial environment throughout the two weeks was fertile soil for learning to grow. Thank you AVID and specifically Linda for making this experience meaningful and worthwhile.

This two week online experience felt like just the right amount of time, collaboration amongst peers, and deeper learning around how to facilitate effectively online. At first I was worried that this was going to overwhelm my time. Working from home and supporting my family at home at the same time, I was a bit worried, I'll admit. However, AVID designers did a fantastic job of presenting the information into manageable and daily 'doable' chunks. The learning topics were relevant to the shift to online facilitation with DigitalXP and I loved learning from my colleagues. Start-Steer-Summarize protocol resonated a lot with me and Diane did a great job with that. I'm excited about what I've done so far and look forward to the next step of Synchronous facilitation!

This two weeks has helped me digest some of the challenges and opportunities involved in becoming an online facilitator. I feel like I have resources to draw upon when I need a little direction. In fact, today, I am going back through all of the posts and saving some comments, articles, etc. into a folder so that I have it all to review prior to facilitation. Thank you Linda and fellow participants for your partnership in this learning experience!

I am excited to learn more about the structure of the course I will be facilitating. I enjoyed using my eBinder as I took notes. I also appreciated the clarifying emails that explained the differences between the Online Facilitator Institute and the DigitalXP. I was confused at first! I am excited to see more engagement over the summer as we work with participants. Thank you Linda for your guidance!

The pacing of the content and daily tasks felt just rigth. Not too much, but also meaningful, connected and applicable to what we were doing. It was great to engage and learn from others during this experience as well. Linda modeled the strategies and tools through each step of the process. We talked a lot about the value of trust and buildling relationships in this process. I wonder if we started this online experience with a synchronous experience that was focused on getting to know each other and building an online community first, if it would have added another level to the dialogue and interactions in the discussion. I also think it would be helpful to have the big picture first so as we're learning tools, strategies and techniques we could think about how they could apply to this specific context. Sometimes it helps to know the what first in order to be intentional about connecting the how. Linda, I appreciate learning from your example and seeing how many different ways to create connections and build on learning throughout this experience. I'm looking forward to the next phase of this process.

I found it very helpful to experience the virtual instructional strategies and formats, then to be able to peek behind the curtain, (I know one of our course mates used that term earlier in the week) to explore and discuss them through the teacher/facilitator lens and to see you utilizing them. It shouldn't suprise me when the elements that we take for granted as learners are so purposeful and front loaded on the facilitator side. Great learning! I am so looking forward to next week to keep filling in the pieces!

A big huge thank you to Linda and the AVID design team. One of the best parts of this course was actually being immersed in my own online instruction with middle schoolers while I was reading, discussing and writing about the online teaching pedagogy. Also, having experience in DTL allowed me to reflect about my practices and see myself instituting these new ideas. I really have thought a lot about the learning cycle for online teaching and the power of feedback. I appreciated the ability to do a little bit every day and feel like I could digest and absorb the new learning. Also, Linda you did a fabulous job with offering feedback and continuing discussions. Thanks for being a great role model for me!

I liked the simplicity of this course. It allowed me to think deeply about the content.
*Meaningful: It was directly applicable to our work. It was highly reflective. We really focused on the experience we wanted our participants to have.

It reminds me of the quote,:"People may not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel."

The modeling from our fearless leader in showing us how to support learners, provide feedback, and keep the communication and thoughts flowing was wonderful! Thank you Linda!

This has been a valuable training that has caused me to think about what strategy and tool I use, why I'm using it and how to sustain engagement. It is all quite intentional and requires careful planning and thought. I have especially enjoyed reading the comments of other facilitators and felt comforted to know that I share many of the same sentiments. As a learner, I was able to experience this in the way that my students experience my online discussion assignments. I've had to program my assignments to not allow students to see other responses until after they post theirs so that they share their own initial thoughts, uninfluenced. I had one student who was so insecure that she would read everyone else's responses to determine if she was "thinking correctly." As a learner, I could see how reading other responses first is a huge temptation, especially if I'm not completely sure that I understand fully what is being asked. This has been a phenomenal experience. I'm looking forward to continued learning.
