Besides that, I'm quite interested in .... well, in..... in anything or nothing at all to be honest.

Everyone ditch goals. Well, not everyone but the ones that are in the centre of the normal distribution graph. The ones who do run away are the rare ones, the ones who are likely to succeed. Below is a Ted talk on how to stop screwing yourself and thinking that your life is fine without some things that you consider desirable but too far-fetched. One of them being your dreams or goals. Mel Robbins tells you about the inner workings of your mind and how you respond to everyday tasks and your goals. If you are constantly struggling whether to give up or continue pursuing your goals, this is the perfect video to watch. She states that it is very simple to get what you want, but not easy. For me, the most inspirational thing to get me going is a quote tweeted by actress Amy Dillon asserting: "My motivational poster is a majestic eagle soaring over the words "You can always quit."

https://bit.ly/1dK6evy

And how I would probably fly off and elope with myself...

HAHA jokes. If I can I probably would. OK, let's be serious, but not too serious. Basic managing skills are essential to our everyday life, from helping you to save time to helping you to gain control of your life. I usually stress out if I do not have enough time to finish any task at hand. In this video, Laura Vanderkam discusses the fact that time will generate itself if we choose what to put into.
"We don't build the lives we want by saving time, we build the lives we want and time saves itself."- Laura Vanderkam
As for stress management, there's another video and link to it

https://bit.ly/2muLgM2

University of London offers a course that is catered to more unique and specific degree, that is Business Management, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Cass, being at its strategic location at the heart of central London lures me to consider the university as my first choice. I definitely prefer a more social environment to study business related subjects because you gain much more insights and knowledge when your surrounding is constantly involved in the business industry. I have visited the university myself and found it to be a suitable environment for studying with advance world-class facilities and ammenities.

https://bit.ly/2Lz2OkR

Stumbling on happiness (book review)

Stumbling on happiness is a book which I borrowed from the library for a month or so now, and I can still remember distinctively that I picked up the book curiously just randomly flipping pages of it. What struck me and made me hooked on to the book is that instead of finding ways to be happy or emphasising on the importance of appreciation(in a cliche manner), the writer criticises about the idea of happiness and the definition of happiness itself. For instance, due to societal norms and current global trends, we are often led astray to the original things that make us happy. Also, predictions about the future(or memories of the past) is usually manipulated by our brain's wide range of biases. These mental errors make it remarkably difficult to predict what will make us feel happy. He goes on to mention that happiness is usually associated with desire, and the things that we desire now and work hard for may not be the things that will make us happy in the future. Eventually, it becomes a vicious circle and people end up working hard for the things that they once thought the world of, achieving it, but isn't happy. Daniel Gilbert, a psychologist and professor in Harvard University examines human behaviour and links it directly to happiness. With the witty and intelligent way of him describing personas and situations, it made me more intrigued upon reading the book in depth. It is definitely worth looking through the book because it opens your vision to new perceptions and identities. But, this book probably won't change your life to make you happier or just plain happy. Change is within you and it starts now.

https://bit.ly/1Q0hBEr

Happy birthday!! This is your first birthday without the two naughty(notti) children by your side. I always am thankful for you and papa, but I'm just too shy to say it. I hope you can enjoy your birthday today, after all that effort you put in raising two kids: driving them to tuition centres without fail, making sure that they have food to eat at night when you are busy finishing accounts during peak periods, going for the extra mile just to ensure that your kids can get overseas education and etc. While you always complain about fetching me routinely for ballet and piano lessons, you never fail to do so. Me on the other hand, likes bickering with you about setting priorities straight and doing the housework! UGH you know that everything in my room has invisible legs that can round around whilst I'm sleeping. I assure you that I had consistently kept my room clean and tidy OK. hahaha jokes. Thanks to your expert teaching method(nagging), I now like to keep my room neat and uncluttered. (organised as well I might say ><) Besides that, after infinity times of helping to wash the dishes at night, cleaning them now to me is just a piece of cake! Anyways, I am utmost grateful for your curry chicken, your resilience and determination to upbring your children towards better life, and your unconditional love(I can still feel it even though you don't show that much). Sorry for the times I made you angry because I don't consider your position or stance. You can finally relax, sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee. I hope you will celebrate your birthday well today with a good dinner and your preferable choice of cuisine. Tell papa to bring you somewhere nice and give you flowers lol haha. I love you so much and will see you very soon.

love,
Crystal
2 1 / 0 5 / 2 0 1 8

Last night, me and my sister went to the Royal Opera House to watch Swan Lake. Besides that it was absolutely terrific and soul-swelling, it brought back a lot of memories to when I was dancing regularly. My sister and I kept chatting about music and ballet techniques that we are very familiar with, particularly the music piece of Tchaikovsky in Swan Lake that was adapted to RAD grade 8 syllabus for 'adage', and the various techniques used in ballet such as "kurus" and "glissades". Odette was graciously wonderful and perfect whereas the stability and jumps given by Prince Siegfried was just smashing, not to mention the live music of Tchaikovsky's romantic composition coupled with the real-like background setting and the detailed designed costumes that were worn by dancers for the acts. The essence portrayed by the black swan captured my attention. She was so sharp and powerful that it made my eyes bedazzle with power and amazement. It was truly a remarkable and world-class experience watching the performance presented by the Royal Opera House. My emotions are just spilling everywhere now. !0/10 would recommend everyone to watch ROH perform at least once in a lifetime. Wew, what a night to remember <3

2 2 / 0 5 / 1 8

A good chef is not just a person who prepares good food, he or she also need to entertain the beloved clients by platting the food nicely for instagramable pictures and finding light source so that hits the food so that the food looks extra appetising in the photo. I can certainly say that we are on our way to do the extremes for food worthy photography. Also, a good chef needs to entertain the customers by cracking jokes from time to time whilst at the breakfast/dinner table. Dessert 2 did all the points above and therefore I conclude that she is a good chef. Below is her masterpiece made with buns, Gordon Ramsay's preferred ham and bacon topped with eggs Benedict and lastly the appealing-looking hollandaise sauce was added. Thanks for cooking good food for us Rachel(dessert 2) hehe lol~~

My friends and I visited The Ivy in Brighton when they first opened. We went for a casual dinner and it was quite a fun and enjoyable evening well spent. With delectable foods and hungry stomachs, we hastily finished our foods at breakneck speed. The ambience was lovely with added touch of aesthetic pop art paintings coupled with vintage decorations. The washrooms were great to take photos too! The only problem for me is that the serving portions for food is slightly smaller compared to other normal restaurants, well at least for me because I have the appetite of a dinosaur hahaha. Do try their Duck Curry, it's so nice that it will make you fly up the air!

The second reason was the different 🤬budget settings and strong opinions we had. Oh wells, it was nice a trip overall.

Since Mamma Mia is coming out this July 2018, it would be a great idea for me to review the original Mamma Mia to wake your senses up! Mamma Mia was released 10 years ago and if you haven't watch it, you have already missed out to much... Jokes! You still can catch up now! While Mamma Mia the movie was my childhood go-to movie(feels like ages ago), it is still vividly remembered on my mind. Let me just point out that the visuals and songs in the movie are just to inexplicably stunning and jaw-dropping. The music used was originally performed by ABBA and produced by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The film features main hits by ABBA such as 'Mamma Mia', 'Dancing Queen', 'Voulez Vouz' and 'Honey Honey'. I really like film musicals and this is my favourite so far because their songs are generally jovial and upbeat and it makes me want to dance to the rhythm and feel the beat! As for songs like 'Last Summer', 'Slipping through my fingers' and 'I have a Dream', the feelings portrayed in the songs just hits hard to the soul. It matches wonderfully to the plot as well. The movie location was situated in Skopelos and Skiathos in Greece which has wonderful sunlight and beaches. The plot starts with Sophie Sheridan(Amanda Seyfried) singing 'I have a dream' while sending wedding invitation letters to her three possible fathers in hopes to search for her real father. The plot ends with Sophie, again singing the same song, but with different desire that is not to marry so young at the age of 20, but to chase her dreams in the big city. While terms romantic and comedy is associated with the film's genres, it is also incorporated with good values that may be blatantly forgotten or lost in society. Truly amazing and soul searching movie to watch.

https://bit.ly/1rZcvHQ

My first impression of the UK is vaguely remembered as it has been ten years when I first visited this country. I remembered that it was summer and the weather was at its optimum. People around were in an ecstatic and joyful mood, partly because of the wonderful and enjoyable summer weather with the blazing sun shining in the vast expanse if clear blue sky. After ten years, my impression of the UK was slightly different when I got off the plane as it was in the cold and chilly winter season. Besides that it was the winter season, it was also near Christmas. So, despite the wintry and not so enjoyable weather, people were still in a lively and elated mood waiting to celebrate Christmas with family and friends. Somehow this warms my heart up and made me feel like home although I was leaving home for the first time to study overseas.

When I first arrived in Brighton, my parents took me around and we went to the Brighton beach. The Brighton beach was not the regular beach with golden sand beneath your feet. Instead, it was rocks! Nevertheless, I still fell in love with the beach as it calms and alleviates my mood and soul. My first impression of Brighton was a fun, lively and entertaining place to live in with peace and harmony surrounding the environment, not to mention the beautiful sceneries!

I want to study Business Management, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship at City, University of London. This is because I am intrigued and fascinated by the use of modern technology such as the internet for socialising and online businesses. It is quite fascinating to observe how technology improves and transforms people's lives on a daily basis. It also transformed the platforms for businesses as well. After my degree, I would like to work in a digital based company and join forces with my colleagues to help innovate and enhance the lives of people with the aid of digital and technological advancements. I might also propose a digital start-up for my own company but that might not be in the near future.

Overall, I like living in Brighton and have slowly adapted myself to the culture and environment here. I will continue to improve myself in every aspect in general so that I will not disappoint myself and my family.

The teaching styles in the UK do not have a lot of difference when compared to my country that is Malaysia. They are quite similar as they lecture students about the information of the subject. However, there is a slight difference between the teaching styles and that is the teachers here engage students to think creatively through more reasoning and discussion segments whereas in Malaysia the teachers seldom include this section in their teaching partly because of the dense subjects which only contain facts such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology. These require more memorization and practice rather than verbally communicate and discuss about the topic. As to Business Studies and Foundation English Skills 2, the teachers tend to stress more on communicating ideas and opinions of different topics to enhance creativity and boost memory power. Hence, we will be in need to give our full attention and concentration while the teacher is teaching so that we do not miss details about the topic that we are going to discuss about.

The workload between studying in the UK and in Malaysia is quite similar as well. Teachers frequently give us assignments or deadlines which I am able to cope but find it very challenging to consistently produce the best piece of work to the best of my ability. Therefore, I always keep myself on top of my work so that I would not miss any homework deadlines or assessments. Another point worth mentioning is that the weightage of tests and examinations in the foundation program are more spread out to different coursework and assessments which will require you to focus more on the task at hand. In Malaysia during my high school period, our exams are carried out twice a year and all of the weightage goes to the exams. Living in a globalized world thanks to digital technology and advancements, making friends are much easier compared to the olden days. I can adapt and accept different cultures and traditions more easily. Although I connect more easily with my friends in Malaysia due to the same thinking and opinion about what we do in our daily life, I am keen to learn about the different lifestyles of people around the world, and Bellerbys Brighton has given me the opportunity to do so.

The class size in my current class is 10 which is considered a reasonable class size, with 7 girls and 3 boys. In my class in high school, we have 32-40 students. There are 30 girls and 2 boys in my last class which was surprisingly fun and enjoyable.

My parents and family have high expectations on me academically wise and in overall life. Nonetheless, they never stress me to do the best in class or achieve the highest marks, they just require me to be my best in the exams and important task. My father and mother put more importance on my attitude of learning and personality as they believe that the attitude of learning is more essential than achieving good grades. They often stress that with good learning attitude you can go far in life. As for me, my expectation for myself has increased by a lot since I came to the UK. As a consequence, I need to work harder in order to meet my own expectations. My dad always advices me and my sister with a Chinese proverb, that is 同台吃饭，各自修行, meaning that although we eat at the same table, we each have different paths and destinies to go to. So, in spite of getting support from my family emotionally, physically and financially now, my destiny and path that I walk into will be my own decision and every action in every second and minute that I take will lead me to the future that I carve myself into. I will try to manage and balance my life better so that every second and minute does not go to waste.

I studied business foundation because I would like to further my studies in Business later on. Studying business foundation helps me to encrypt the fundamentals of business as well as preparing me for studying my degree in university. So far I have learnt Business Maths, Economics 1, Introduction to Accounting and Business Studies 1. These subjects help me to grasp a clearer image of how a business works, what effect it has on society and how a business is affected by its surroundings.

Although this is my first time studying business related subjects, I found the subjects to be quite interesting and relatable to everyday life. I was fairly intrigued by how the price mechanism works in economics and how a business can work successfully despite the constantly evolving world. As my fascination for studying these subjects grew, I would like to know more about how entrepreneurship and marketing skills are cultivated in a person. I would also like to know more about how decisions are being made in a large ltd or PLC companies.

The teachers in Bellerbys use different types of teaching methods to teach the students. They often incorporate the discussion method into their teaching to make the class more lively and enjoyable. It did work out well. My FES 2 teacher Ms Bright always encourage us to generate ideas and opinions in group discussions which really helped me to improve my spoken English and cognitive thinking skills.

Overall, I have a pleasant experience studying in Bellerbys.

The reason for studying Foundation English classes at Bellerbys is to further improve my academic English. As I am not that well versed with using academic language for spoken and written English, the Foundation English classes helps me to gear up and get ready for university.

There are definitely dissimilarities between academic and general English. One of the main differences is that academic English usually comprise of specific or target language that serve a purpose to give the readers a clear understanding of the written or spoken passage. As for general language, it is more of a casual, informal or creative style of writing. I personally prefer writing in general English style because I can use more floral language to express my feelings and describe certain objects or environment in detail. I need to know more about academic language used to write thesis statements and synthesis. Furthermore, I would like to study more about spoken academic English and how it is effectively used in our daily lives.

I am taught by my teacher Mr Giron in FES1 and Ms Bright in FES2. Both of the teachers are very knowledgeable in the English field. They always stress upon the idea of target language and purpose language which I found very useful to use, particularly in business.

I found it very useful to study the CIT course. This is because the course topics are practical and useful when in university and after university. The course topic covers Microsoft Excel and Word, Padlet blog and learning journal. For a business student like me, learning how to productively use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word are rudimentary and important as it is great to use Microsoft Excel to handle numbers for Accounting and Finance students coupled with Microsoft Word for management and economics students. A media or art student would be in need to learn how to make creative content on blogs.

I really enjoyed making a blog about myself and writing journals. This is because it allows me to have a way of expressing my feelings and ideas when the other subjects are always in an objective point of view. I understood more about Microsoft Excel and how to use the functions now. Back then in my high school, there were no CIT courses in our modules, so I found it harder than my friends to learn Excel when I came here. Well, the last time I learnt Excel was in primary school! Although in the end I was still quite slow with Excel, I seem to get the gist of it and it was an enjoyable experience.

I need to know more about how to easily memorise shortcuts to keys so the efficiency can be maximized when working on spreadsheets or documents. Ms Witherby teaches CIT in my class for this term. She usually demonstrates on how to use the functions of Excel or Word to us for producing a spreadsheet or word document before we start grinding the work down. Her teaching is clear and understandable which is very helpful to me and my classmates.

Much of my term flew by much more briefly than I had anticipated. This term required from me more narrowed and directed focus due to its increased intensity and rigour, combined with the relatively short time frame of the 8 weeks I had to complete my entire academic workload. I kicked off the term with a bang as the modules that I am studying this term greatly piqued my interest. I also greatly enjoyed the tutorials of my teachers. However, in all due honesty, I was not a huge fan of coursework deadlines and the many tests. While the entire course was not a simple walk in the park or bed of roses, I can safely say the highs outweighed the lows.

Differences between subjects

The subjects that I am currently studying are Business Studies 1, Introduction to Accounting, and Foundation English Skills 2. Business Studies 1 and Foundation English Skills 2 are closely interlinked and have many areas of overlap. The English skills I acquired in Foundation English Skills 2 proved much useful when studying Business due to the academic language required in written work. Accounting on the contrary, requires a vastly different skillset from the other two with much numeracy coming into play, honing my logical bases. This eclectic mix of subjects allowed me to have a balanced curriculum that will remain applicable in the near future. On top of that, I also spent a substantial amount of time preparing for my IELTS in the first half of the term. I found much of the learning enjoyable, along with the skills garnered being very applicable.

Foundation English Skills 2

From Foundation English Skills 2, I learnt how to better articulate and pen down my ideas and opinions. I got the chance to put these skills into action while writing my various essays and assignments, along with the presentation I made on art, literature and media, and its impacts on society allows me to encrypt the knowledge about the recent happenings of the global community. I also researched in depth about the effects of them on human behaviour, the things we do and how it affects the perception of the way we think. It is quite an interesting topic to learn about and thus I have gained much insight about the topic.

Business Studies 1

Meanwhile, from Business Studies, I gleamed the key qualities needed of an entrepreneur, learning how to write a business plan, PESTLE analysis and about business ethics. Last but not least, I learnt about corporate social responsibility, its impacts and why is this quintessential to a healthy market.

Accounting

Finally, in Accounting, I have acquired the basic skillsets needed in this study such as knowing how to do ledgers, T-accounts, trial balances, income statements, as well as cash budgets. I also had my first few encounters with various accounting concepts and the needed equations. As I progressed further in my studies, my perception of business and its goings took a hundred-and-eighty-degree turn. I learnt how importance and gravity of business planning, and how the sheer emphasis on analysing risk and the plan in deterring them to, significantly preserving a business’ viability. I used to favour economics much more than business studies. However, much has changed from then and I now see the latter’s merits and quirks. Allowing me to enjoy and appreciate the study of Business as a whole much more.

Overall thoughts

On to the non-academic part of my reflection, I thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of my classmates this term. This term, I have tangibly seen how my relationship with them has only gotten stronger, day by day. I deeply appreciate the great joy they bring with their joviality and humour. I strongly desire to continue getting closer to them, through the camaraderie of school life and whatever it brings. I also very much appreciate my teachers for their care and concern extending beyond academic affairs coupled with their much useful and impactful helpfulness.
