Child care centres are governed by the Child Care Centres Act (Cap. 37A) and Child Care Centres
Regulations (Cap. 37A, Section 19).
The Child Care Centres Act (Cap. 37A), Section 4 requires:
(a) all child care centres to be licensed; and
(b) all child care centres to comply with standards set out in the Regulations made under the Act, or any
other requirements that may be specified by the Director of Social Welfare. The Regulations include
the use of Child Care Link by child care centres to make submissions as stipulated by the Director.
Please refer to Regulation 42 and First Schedule of the Child Care Centres Regulations.

Child Care Centre Para Professional
Training Requirements-
Para-educarers: Fundamentals in Early Childhood Care and Education course (acquired within one year of joining the service).
Para-educators: Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education course.

Responsibilities-
`Present lesson plans, materials or programmes to children in a one-to-one or group setting
`Assist teacher to monitor and supervise children in the classroom/on field trip/meal times/other activities/or when teacher is otherwise occupied
`Assist teacher in preparing for lessons
`Make quick, responsible decisions regarding children's welfare and safety, including counseling them regarding conduct and self-discipline
`Assist teacher to develop individual instructional materials, utilise reference and source for materials
`Provide administrative support for class recordkeeping and updating portfolio and communication book as required
