A dollhouse is a common toy of sorts that typically young girls receive to play out a family through their will. A dollhouse is devoid of human development and characteristics and sustenance. One person can control everything, rather than have everyone in charge of their own lives. With this, Nora is controlled by their, both Torvald's iron clad fist holding her submerged into a position below but also Nora's own inability to exit it. Well that's debatable, considering she did not have many options to.

They are all treated as inanimate objects and do not have thoughts of their own. They are treated like toys to the others in the house. The children are around only when Nora needs something to do and Nora is only around Torvald when he has nothing better to do or he needs her to do something.

Throughout the play I felt that the title was very fitting because the concept of a dollhouse promotes and idea of a toy world, where one can control the way things happen, and within this play Nora was represented as a doll who was unknowingly controlled by both societies expectations as well as Torvalds. Although Norda didnt seem to notice the correlation of her being similar to a doll in the beginning of the play, she soon realized everything she had been put through and how similar her life was to the dolls she used to play with in her childhood.

A Doll's House gives off the idea that there is one person in control over the actions of the others around them, as they are like a kid controlling his/her dolls, making stories and living out their lives for them. This is a good summary of Torvald where he does not see his wife Nora as a person with her own individuality, but rather as a doll that he can manipulate to do anything he'd like with.

This play is titled "A Doll House" because the author feels the characters in the play are like expendable toys. No one is really a unique person, rather playing roles in society. Torvald is a stereotypical wealthy husband and father, Nora plays the role of the generic woman/wife, and so does the rest of the family including the maid.

The title is a representation of the marriage relationship between Nora and Torvald. Nora is treated like a child in the relationship, seen as a doll and nothing more. Torvald treats her like a toy rather than an equal partner in their marriage. To Nora, her entire house is nothing more than a fantasy where she is under control of a puppet master. Hence the title, A Dollhouse.

It creates an illustration of how just like a real life doll house, the dolls, or in this case people, do not have things that are special about themselves. The relationships between these dolls are simply made up and hollow.
