The "Carnivore" diet is a diet that is going viral for being the new healthiest thing. It is basically just meat (sometimes raw) and dairy. People on the carnivore diet avoid carbs, fruits and vegetables which is an extremely controversial take. This is the reason why I chose my topic because I didn't want it to be obvious and instead I wanted it to raise debate and controversial opinions. I have seen it on TikTok numerous times and have almost even been influenced by it without seeing any scientific evidence to back it up.

How does this diet compare to balanced and recommended diets we discussed in class and also highlighted by health professionals?

The carnivore diet is not a balanced diet. Due to the heavy restrictions it lacks numerous things like folate, fibre, essential vitamins and minerals (like vitamin c). Only eating meat means eating a lot of animal fat (saturated fat), which means lots of LDL cholesterol. Lots of processed meats also have a lot of sodium which can increase blood pressure and other worse outcomes.

What are the "pros" of the carnivore diet?

Other than the weight loss effects, pros of the carnivore diet is that it is causing people to have less brain fog and more energy. I couldn't really find scientific evidence on this however the girl in the video did say this and numerous other carnivores have mentioned this. I believe it is because there is lots of iron. Also, on a carnivore diet, one's body tends to switch to fat as the primary energy source (Texas Real Food).
