GEOGRAPHY: Ancient Greeks were fascinated by geography. current day Greece occupies a large part of Europe. to the south of Greece is the Mediterranean sea. Mountains lie narrow valleys and areas with plains.FARMING IN ANCIENT GREECE was not the best because they had thin soil and dry climate, therefore only one fifth of the land was good for farming which also lead to small amounts of wheat and barley were able to grow and they also began to find the importance of grains. they also began to make wine and other things with olives like olive oil. A meal in ancient Greece may consist of bread and sometimes dried fish. EARLY PEOPLE OF GREECE: people of many cultures settled down in ancient Greece. One of the first people there were called the Minoans. Since archaeologists have very powerful tools to help them reveal the truth about history they found things from the remains of the Minoans and they had a large trade route and they went every which way. However there are also the Mycenaean's which was one of the Minoans trade route and they adapted there way of society and therefore that lead to the invasion of Minoans when they were weak and they just took over. ANCIENT LEGENDS: after the Mycenaean's lost there strength a poet started to write epics and even today people still read Homer's work. However it was said to be that there was a war between the Mycenaean's and the Trojans that lived in Troy and that's what lead to the Trojan hoarse legend. CITY STATES AND GREEK CULTURE: At around 800 BC the people of Greece started building settlements again, to protect themselves from invaders Greek communities built a fort on top of a large hill this acropolis the turned to religious matter or temples outside of the acropolis there were houses other temples and markets.Sparta was another city-state of ancient Greece and they focused mostly on physical ability. Spartans conquered the earlier people and made them helots and slaves. However Spartans were a whole different story.
