In Week 4, we explored the application of advertising research in strategic copywriting. I learned that advertising research is essential for enhancing the effectiveness of ads by systematically collecting and analyzing information. This research can be focused on specific ads or campaigns, utilizing perspectives from psychology, sociology, and anthropology. The lessons emphasized the importance of asking the right questions, using appropriate research techniques, and presenting findings clearly to guide actions. Understanding consumer behavior and using customized or syndicated research helps in developing effective advertising strategies. This knowledge is crucial in creating targeted and impactful ads that resonate with the audience. By integrating these insights, I can better understand and attract target audiences in future ad designs.

(112 words）

In Week 5, we delved into the concept of the "Big Idea" in advertising. A Big Idea is a compelling advertising concept that vividly connects with the target audience and creates a sustainable competitive advantage for the brand. We learned about the Ogilvy Method and the four steps to developing a Big Idea: starting with a clear brief, uncovering a compelling insight, finding the brand connection, and articulating the idea clearly and succinctly. The lecture highlighted that a Big Idea should solve a significant problem, tell a story, and be both evolutionary and revolutionary. This understanding helps in crafting memorable and effective advertisements that stand out in a crowded market. Knowing how to develop and implement a Big Idea is essential for creating ads that have a lasting impact on the audience.

（108 words）

In Week 8, the focus was on writing for radio commercials, one of the more challenging forms of copywriting. We learned about the advantages and disadvantages of radio ads, the different formats (such as music, dialogue, announcement, celebrity announcer, and dramatized commercials), and the essentials of a good radio ad. The lecture stressed the importance of delivering meaningful content, engaging the listener, and using sound and music effectively to create a "theater of the mind." Successful radio ads should have a strong call-to-action and be able to hold the listener's attention despite the fleeting nature of the medium. This week’s lessons taught me how to craft radio ads that captivate and persuade the audience, even without visual elements.

（108 words)

During Week 7, we discussed different types of body writing techniques, including direct narrative body, dialogic body, proof body, narrative body, and direct response body. We also explored various body writing styles such as emotional, narrative, factual hard sell, and factual educational. These lessons emphasized the importance of creating compelling, specific and concise copy that matches the brand message and appeals to the target audience. By understanding these conventions, I can write more effective and persuasive ad copy in the future. Also in week seven, I was refining my individual assignments by once again reviewing the assignment briefs sent by my professor and revising them in the format required by my instructor, as well as discussing them with my classmates in the same class!

(110 words）

In Week 6, we focused on advertising copywriting style and the details of writing the body of a print ad. We learned about the conventions of effective copywriting, such as using vivid language, keeping it simple, and writing in the present tense with the active voice. The professor also showed us many examples for our reference and learning. At the end of the class, the professor assigned us a little exercise to analyze an advertisement, and at the same time, the professor asked us to catch up with our individual assignments, and at this point in time, I had already completed a large portion of my individual assignments, with the exception of a new poster design, and a large portion of a PowerPoint presentation.

（104 words）
