This poem is a Shakespearean sonnet. This sonnet compares his lover to a number or other beauties which are never in the lovers favor. Some literary devices are personification and similes. "If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head." The rhyme scheme is abab cdcd efef gg. There is a couplet at the end of the poem. The theme is true love doesn't require false comparisons, it is enough to stand on its own. Most sonnets about love have flattering comparisons, this sonnet uses realistic comparisons because beauty is subjective.

Some other poetic and literary devices includes metaphor, imagery, alliteration, and personification.
