What is it?
Padlet is a simple tool to use in the classroom setting. This can be used for collaborative learning, discussion board, and mind mapping. You can easily grant access to the Padlet tool by sharing a link or adding users to the direct link.

When & How to Use It?
This is a great tool for students to reflect and share their thoughts on a particular topic (anonymously too). You can use this tool to gauge what the learners took away from the homework, reading, questions/concerns about the content, and evaluate the level of learning taking place in class based on the posts. You and the participants are able to rate post and reply in real time to evaluate and provide constructive feedback. You can also use this tool to organize and present your ideas like this post.

What is it?
Kahoot engages students with a dose of competition. The instructor can make a fun multiple choice quiz for the students. When your students are ready to play, they enter the unique quiz code on their smartphone app or computer. Students have to select the right (shape) answer as quickly as possible to get the most points on each question. The tool promotes social learning.

When & How To Use It? Kahoot is a great tool to raise the energy level and engagement of the group while assessing the content you covered in the classroom. I prefer using this tool towards the end of the meeting/class time. This tool can also be used as a homework assignment.

What is it?
Mentimeter is a great tool to poll and survey your audience to keep the participants engaged in the classroom. It is a great way to gain a pulse of your audience and direct the presentation or discussion.

When & How To Use It?
Mentimeter is an interactive tool that can jumpstart the conversation or assess parts of the lesson with the use of computer/smartphone. The instructor-students have the opportunity to engage with one another by polling, quizzing, or reflecting on the presented prompt. The beauty of these prompts is you are able to use, evaluate, and compare the data across the board. Assessing learning is important and this simple tool highlights results in real time.

What is it?
This tool is a great way to deliver content outside the formal classroom. The instructor has the ability to record and to capture the material using the webcam features and the computer screen to navigate through the course material.

When & How To Use It?
This tool is a great one. I would recommend using this tool for hybrid and flipped learning. Additionally, I can see this tool being used for homework or the instructor really wants to reiterate a particular topic. As an instructor, you can deliver content by recording your computer screen while using your webcam to narrate and to project the covered material to your students. The students can reference this content as much as possible at their own pace.

What is it?
This tool is an innovative way of using the standardized clickers with the instructor’s smartphone to get participants to respond to prompts using customized cards and a smartphone.

When & How To Use It?
Plickers is a great formative assessment tool to gauge the level of learning in the classroom. This tool works in a similar nature as Kahoot without the competition component on display. Plickers is unique to me because you can track and evaluate the students’ progress better. The tool is best used to assess the student’s comprehension of the content in a quiz format and may be best placed at the end of the lesson.

What is it?
This is a neat tool to engage and present an interactive component to reading. You can assign reading to books or upload PDF files to track the reading progress of your class.

When & How to Use It?
Curriculet is a useful tool and would recommend using outside the classroom for homework or possibly flipped/hybrid learning. The instructor will assign reading to the class. The students in the class will then read the assignment at their own pace outside the class. The instructor can emphasize sections of the reading on this tool by highlighting certain parts, prompting questions for basic reading comprehension or critical thinking, and making notes throughout the reading. Additionally, the instructor can check the progress of the students and assess the students using the built-in formative assessment tool.

What is it?
Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool with a local, desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video. Zoom users can choose to record sessions, collaborate on projects, and share or annotate on one another’s screens, all with one easy-to-use platform. Zoom offers quality video, audio, and a wireless screen-sharing performance.

When & How To Use It?
Zoom can be utilized in or outside of the classroom. If you had a guest speaker, then you could Zoom the person in to present to the class. Outside the class, this is a great tool for group projects with class members to ensure the members are working collaboratively. Like Screencast-O-Matic, you can record your lecture or talk while capturing your screen and voice. You can also teach live (i.e. webinar style) where you can chat, host Q&A and polling with students, participants can use the raise and feature, and check out attention indicator.
