Before I am getting into the real knowledge about the definition and concept of region, in my thought was the regions of different countries were separated based on the previous history such as era of colonialism or the geography in term of physical. However, the concept on separation of region is not as simple as I thought but it is influencing by many aspect and perspective. First and foremost, region can be defined as an area or combination of two or more areas which meet the same characteristics, features or criteria under the fixed boundaries. Basically, region is differentiating by the aspects such as physical geography, composition and size, climatic, influence of political, economic activity and culture and a host of other defining characteristics. For instance, climate regions may include the tropics, the highlands, the marine-west coast, the long and short summer mid-latitude climates, and so on. Cultural regions might include places dominated by religions such as Islam, Christianity which is in Sibu and Kuching that have mostly Christian living in, and many others. In other word, what am I understood is in general, region can come to formal region which is existing the high levels of similarities to their distinguishing features such as affluence, dominant land uses, or religious preferences or functional region which is may include the characteristics such as common social, political, or economic purposes that relate to trade, communications or transportation for instance the relocation of Indonesian Capital to Borneo. Therefore, how to create the region effectively? In my opinion, it must be going through the planning region and regional planning. At first, planning region must to be identified which is those areas which have homogenous economic, geographical and sociocultural structure to attain development effectively, After that , the regional planning is coming across to deal with the efficient placement of economic activities such as industrial or agriculture activities by distributing the resources in order to achieve sustainable development in particular region.

In conclusion, the concept of region is crucial in planning for development. This is because the implementation of resources such as natural resources or human resources can be effective to sustain development in term such as economic viability. In other word, it can be say that the region which consists of different geographical areas with respect to economic , technological, standard of living, and education can be recognized and the development strategy can be strike in to favors the areas in the region to grow rapidly in short run or long term.
