Copyright is a protection of original works made by authors and creators, to make sure that their works are protected at all costs from those trying to copy it. A good example would be Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby", where he never asked Queen to sample their song, "Under Pressure". Queen then sued Ice in return.

What is Fair Use?

Fair Use is the limited usage availability of copyrighted media without consent of asking, such as parodies and using clips in a news story. One famous example would be the majority of Weird Al's discography, where he parodies songs of famous singers and bands, such as Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and he then created "Smells Like Nirvana".

What is Creative Commons?

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization which supports and promotes the sharing and reuse of works all over the world. A little fun fact, that little "cc" that you see in the little corner of a name, is Creative Commons trademark.

What is Attribution?

Attribution is when you're able to have a license to have full credit to the work you had done. And if someone wants to use the work, they must ask you before using your work.

Why Does This Matter?

All of these matter because I am becoming a history teacher for high school. I will need to make sure that I do not steal anyone else's ideas/worksheets when making assignments for students. And if I do end up needing to get worksheets from a site, such as Teachers Pay Teachers, I would have to give them credit.

How will I Acknowledge This?

I will acknowledge this by making sure that the proper credit and permission has been granted from the sources I had saw the worksheets/activities from, to make sure that I am not breaking any copyright laws or fair use laws.
