This was not an easy task for me, however it was entertaining. I chose to make the letters in my name bounce because I have ADHD and sometimes my thoughts bounce all over the place so I thought it was funny. I added four sprites to the animation because they represent four important things to me. The first one is the New York Giants logo. Although I live in MA now, I am originally from NY and always have been and always will be a NY Giants fan! I am a Red Sox fan, because I never watched baseball until I moved up here. The third logo is the Merrimack College logo because that is where I went for my undergraduate degree. Merrimack was the most amazing four years of my whole life and it holds such a big and special place in my heart. The third image is the I love NY sign because no matter where I live or how far away I go NY will always be home to me! The picture in the background is my on Madison Ave in the greatest city on earth!

I love using Scratch and use it with my students every year. If I see students twice a week, Scratch is one of their choices to use independently. I would use my animation as a model and ask students to predict which code I used to make the letters move the way they do. Then, I would ask students to recreate the project and showcase their personality with the music and movements.

One important thing about my name is that I was named after both of my grandmothers, Jacque and Lynn. I used the succulent wallpaper background because it is very calming. I created the code to move the pieces and then added the music that fit the movements afterward.

I had a really difficult time with this project. Although I kept at it I feel as if my skills in coding are nowhere even close to my peers which is never really a good feeling.

I chose to make the letters in my name flip and end up backwards because this is typically how I react to learning new processes on my own without a side by side verbal support. The tutorials were helpful however I still feel like I didn't even approach proficiency for this assignment which is incredibly frustrating but I am reassured that this course is a perfect opportunity to not close myself off from what I might be capable of learning and applying to my teaching practice as I can see major potential for instruction delivery using a format like this.

I chose to draw in the doodles that often end up in my notebooks or are most requested by my students as they make me happy and I thought that a familiar image would be less intimidating to work with and manipulate.

I added the photo of my grandfather staring into the Florida sunset as well because that was a significantly special moment we shared together and he loves anything to do with the cosmos. I thought it was a nice abstraction of how I see one of the people I love who also has been a major player in my adult development and realizations about who I am as a person.

Hoping to learn more and play with scratch in my time outside of assignments!

Making the Sprites move was nowhere near as hard as figuring out how to post this link and make comments. Just figuring out how to share really through me. Then I was figuring out how to make my name not anonymous? Well, I like nature, and moving around in it. I have a bouncy 12 year old son who watches Nature Cat on PBS. Those were my inspirations. My stuffy formal name is Margaret, most people call me Meg.

This project was really hard as someone with dyslexia I had a little bit of trouble with coding. Overall it was really cool. I chose the city as my background. I love the city and it's lights and that there is so much do to in the a city never sleeps. However, when it is my bedtime I prefer resting in a quiet neighborhood. My formal name is Eumeraude but it was way to long for the scratch app it is Emerald just spelled the french way.

I have used Scratch a few times, but I haven't made anything complex since I did a short Alice In Wonderland animation in high school (it took me around 3 weeks to figure out how to animate the part where she grows and shrinks). I wanted to do something where my name inflated and floated around like a balloon. I also wanted to use bright colors that were reminiscent of the intro animations for the show Broad City. This was the closest I could get in the time allotted.

Enjoy!

Cheers,
Ellen
she/her(s)
