The theme of these two books are that the diversity of the world can be the same in some ways and different in other ways. For example: The book "Same but different" talked about how two kids from different countries like the same things, but they were different in some ways. The book "Whoever you are" talked about how people from all over the world shared the same feelings, but have different cultures. -Joelle, Davin, Christian

It talks about that if you imaged the world as a village with 100 people the 100 people would all come from different places like China or Europe or North America. Some of them would have air conditional, some would electricity and some would have non. Each would have their own religion (some have no religion), and each one would have different languages and each would be different.

This book shows how everyone came to America and everyone is different. We learned in the book that diversity is a good thing and that it's okay that you are different from everyone else. If you dream about coming to America and you put your mind to it, you can do it. It also teaches us that immigrates help us and it's like we are all a big village.

In the book that Ryan's group has currently read called "How my parents learned to eat" we think that the moral was try new things even if your afraid to try. An example is how the American sailor learned to eat with chopsticks, and the Japanese lady learned to eat like an Englishman even though they were scared and were afraid they were going to get embarrass. I think one way it connects to the situation we are in right know with the immigrants is, in the book a man helped the sailor eat with chopsticks. Let's say no other people from China came, If so they can not teach us their religion. But because in the United States there are so many people that come together each person with their own special story that they can teach us all that knowledge. That's what makes the United States so important. But not just China, if no other people from other religions could come we would be just blocking off all that knowledge. Not just knowledge, also important workers that could make life better. For example, imagine your in class with your friends and you all know cool tricks and are each strong in your own subjects but one day they all get separated from you, so they can't help you in math, art, science, or whatever else. They get separated from you so you get no more help and only because they know different things and believe in different things. So different people come let's say your best subject is language arts, only people that's favorite subject is language arts can move in your table. That saying, you will learn nothing really from them because most of the time you won't need help but if you need help with math there's nobody there to help.
