In the 1970's, the travel and tourism industry experienced a significant shift, with the rise of package holidays and mass tourism. This was due to many reasons such as, economic prosperity this is when people started to earn more money therefore they had more to access to traveling and leisure. Another reason is lower costs, due to the energy crisis of the 1970's it led to lower prices and costs which meant holidays were much more cost efficient. Tour operators are also an impact as they helped make holidays more affordable and accessible. For example, package holidays which include many things such as transport, hotels and food. This makes it cheaper as it all comes as a bundle and is a great deal. The major growth came in the 1970s, as people became more prosperous and keen to see new places. Popular destinations were Spain and Portugal as they are not as far. In the 1970's there was also an increase in oversea travel. It increased by 16% with 6.7 million people traveling.
