We get a deeper understanding of the world through reading because it provides us with real life experiences and lessons that we are able to grasp and apply to our daily lives. For ex. One of the lessons/morals of By the Waters of Babylon is to seek knowledge. John sets out on his journey because of his lack of Knowledge of the Place of Gods. This leads readers to a deeper understanding of the book and real life. This could also change your mindset and how you think, it may urge you to always find answers to things you have no knowledge of.

We Get a deeper understanding of the world through reading because books are vast and so is the knowledge with in them. Each book is filled with someones interpritations, someones experiences, someones reaserch, discoveries, knowledge, creaticity and much more. If you read every book you would be filled with almost all the knowledge of human advancement from when someone first picked up there pen to the last. We read about peoples experiences in books so we can learn from there mistakes. In the Text By the waters of babylon , we are presented with a young man who was ignorant to that past discoveries by man. Because of him and his fathers lack of knowledge them as well as al, the people came to there own interpritayions of the lands and structures and assumed it was the work of gods. After he traveled to the city he began to learn the truth and the fate that actually befell the people or the gods as he still reffered to the people as
¨Then I saw their fate come upon them and that was terrible past speech. It came upon them as they walked the streets of their city. I have been in the fights with the Forest People—I have seen men die. But this was not like that. When gods war with gods,
they use weapons we do not know.¨
He learned what became of the race of people after there greed and knowledge consumed them and manifested into hate and rage which led to war. This shows the reader that if we stay on the same tracka s we are now whos to say a war similar to this one wont break out and wipe out the human race and all of our advancements.

This quote to me means that when you read you'll be able to understand history and possibly able to understand yourself.A quote from"By the Water of Babylon" that shows"my heart was troubled about going east, yet i knew that i must go"This shows that wherever you might go you'll be able to understand the world.

I agree with this quote, I believe we get a better understanding of the world through readings because we get different perspectives of our world when readings. My philosophy is that we can learn something from everyone, so reading someone else's look on our world might change our perspective or answer unanswered questions. Reading someone's else's experiences, thoughts, and findings, can give us insights on how other people live outside of our bubble, or what the world might be like to other people. In the text, it states, "Everywhere there were books and writings, many in tongues that I could not read. The god who lived there must have been a wise god and full of knowledge. I felt I had a right there, as I sought knowledge also.Nevertheless, it was strange. There was a washing-place but no water—perhaps the gods washed in air." This detail demonstrates how to John and his father, these simple men where gods, and extremely advanced, even thinking that they had magic powers for using electricity and technology unfamiliar to them. Reading this gives us a better understanding of the world because we see how other people view it.

I agree with the quote " reading leads you to a deeper understanding of the world" because i believe reading can help us in many ways with different situations. one of the things the story " by the waters of Babylon" teachs about is to seek knowledge within the narrator and the gods that can led us to a deeper meaning of the story. stories like " by the waters of Babylon" and many others can help us not only better understand the story but help us create a deeper in our mindset and in real life that can show us different ways to look at things and help us learn. in the text is shows one quote that makes me think deeper to what the author/ narrator was trying to teach us " the god who lived there must have been a wise god full of knowledge" and also " when gods war with other gods they use weapons we dont know about" my last quote was from kaylynn since while read what she had wrote really made me think. we hear stories from many years ago and just go along with it since we dont know if it actually did happen but in the back of our min we create questions and create scenarios in our on how we think things went or shouldve happened which creates deeper thinking which is why i believe that quote "reading leads you to a deeper understanding of the world" is true reading can help us become better at understanding others deeper meanings.

I agree with the quote that said that reading makes for a better understanding of the world because for example in the story it has a lot of metaphors like “The north and the west and the south are good hunting ground, but it is forbidden to go east. It is forbidden to go to any of the Dead Places except to search for metal and then he who touches the metal must be a priest or the son of a priest. Afterwards, both the man and the metal must be purified. These are the rules and the laws; they are well made. It is forbidden to cross the great river and look upon the place that was the Place of the Gods—this is most strictly forbidden. We do not even say its name though we know its name. It is there that spirits live, and demons—it is there that there are the ashes of the Great Burning. These things are forbidden—they have been forbidden since the beginning of time.” this is showing how he feels about being the priests son and he’s actually talking about New York know if you saw just this paragraph you wouldn’t actually understand what is actually going on, in other words reading all the way through can help you get a better understanding to

I agree with this quote because reading opens up your mind to have a better understanding of the world or how society work's.Reading can also help us in any situation that occurs.Reading helps you understand a deeper point of view in life.According to the article called " By the water of babylon" it says "I was taught how to read in the old books and how to make the old
writings—that was hard and took a long time. My knowledge made me happy—it was
like a fire in my heart.'' This is showing how reading gave him knowledge which helped him understand how his world worked and how it lead him to a great path.

I agree with this quote , i´d like to think that when we read books , our knowledge is being expanded because we are reading things from a different point of view . For instance someone might think they are an expert about something until they discuss that topic with someone else , if they truly listen to what that person is saying they might be introduced to a new piece of information or they might be introduced to a new way to look at things. According to the text it states ¨I have been in fights with the Forest People -I have seen men die.But this was not like that ¨ . That line ties back to books because you can think you know about a subject but you only know it from your perspective , when you read a book about it now you know it from that authors view point .

I agree¨Reading leads you to a deeper understanding of the world¨. When we read books it's like exploring a place we have never been to. In an article, ¨BY THE WATER OF BABYLON¨ by Stephen Vincent Benet, the author explains he was afraid of going to the dead houses near his house. However,he started becoming less scared. In the article it stated¨ After a time, I myself was allowed to go into the dead houses and search for metal. So, I learned the ways of those houses—and if I saw bones, I was no longer afraid. The bones are light and old—sometimes they will fall into dust if you touch them. But that is a great sin¨(Benet pg 1). This explains how when the priest first went to the dead houses he was scared but after going constantly he wasn't scared no more and he learned new things from the dead houses. This shows how exploring can help you overcome your fear and get to learn a new experience. However, exploring isn´t the only way we can learn new things or get to experience new ideas we also do when we read.
