<title>Trace Fossils are the signs that organisms were once present. An animal makes a footprint when it steps in sand or mud. Over time the footprint is buried in layers of sediment. Then the sediment becomes solid rock. Trace fossils can be tracks, footprints, trails, burrows, eggs, nests, leaf impressions, and feces. </title>

<title>A cast fossil is formed when an animal, plant, or other&amp;nbsp;organism&amp;nbsp;dies, its&amp;nbsp;flesh&amp;nbsp;decays&amp;nbsp;and&amp;nbsp;bones&amp;nbsp;deteriorate&amp;nbsp;due to chemical reactions; minerals gradually enter into the cavity, resulting in a&amp;nbsp;cast, which is in the general form of the original organism. A&amp;nbsp;mold fossil&amp;nbsp;is the rock that surrounds the cast fossil in which the cavity is in the shape of the fossil (very similar to a mold fossil).</title>
