Everyone is expected to work and nobody really makes a a large sum of money. West Virginia also has a lower population, and it shows that on the slideshow.

This could be connected to how high the rate of kids that drop out of high school is in McDowell county. Our connection to this was how most people in McDowell County had lower incomes, but the prices of goods are lower than in the rest of the US.  Also, the poverty rate and all of the other rates look high because these places' populations are less than larger areas.

Based on the slides, there is so much poverty in this area. I can't believe that people make less then 15,000 a year. In October Sky, the town of Coalwood is mostly filled with miners who work in terrible conditions and live below the poverty line.
