One student was celebrating the end of his VCE exams with his friends. A verbal altercation took place between the Year 12 student and a 14-year-old boy. The younger boy insulted one of the girls in the group by using offensive name calling. The Year 12 student responded by calling the boy ‘unibrow’. The boy speared the Year 12 student with the metal tip of his umbrella. Four days later the Year 12 student died as a result of the attack.
