         <description><![CDATA[<div>J.J Thompson discovered by measuring the amount of heat the cathode rays generated that they were not rays or waves at all. Instead he discovered they are small and light negatively charged particles that he called electrons. He called this the plum pudding model.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1909 he performed an experiment known as the gold foil experiment. He used alpha particles that are positvely charged to get a correct response from the experiment. Using this test discovered some rays went through the foil and some bounced back leaving him to find that there must be a concentrated area in the atom and that the rest is empty space. He called this concentrated area the nucelus.</div>]]></description>
