      <description>Students gain an understanding of the inter-relatedness of health, safety, and nutrition in the life of a young child, birth through age eight. Students learn about health appraisals and appropriate assessment tools. They make an in-depth analysis of the infectious process and effective control of communicable diseases and acute illness found in the early childhood years and settings. The course examines safety management and the handling of child abuse and neglect. Students learn appropriate nutritional guidelines and practices for planning meals and snacks in the classroom. This course requires field experience  within early childhood education settings.</description>

Recognize the principles to implement in creating and managing a safe early childhood education environment.                5. Explain how to handle abuse and neglect in the early childhood education setting.                         6. Identify appropriate education experiences for teaching young children &quot;appropriate&quot; safety practices.         7. Develop an awareness and appreciation of the likenesses and differences among children, families, and colleagues.</title>
