The Japanese internment camps were overcrowded and provided poor living conditions. The places they lived in had no plumbing, or cooking facilities of any kind. The food was rationed out at an expense of 48 cents per person, leaving many starving. Overall in the camp, there are 54 barracks into 36 blocks. These contained about 200 to 400 people. In a 20 by 25 room, 8 people were put together.

Many women that were exposed to the war faced the bystander effect. The bystander effect is when a person is less likely to offer help or aid when others are around. We find this relevant in the war because women were typically ignored by others when they needed help (disease, hunger, injured).
