They were concerned and scared. Hearing anything about the heart can be very alarming and they had prior experience with a family member who had heart disease. They were also shocked that such a young puppy would have a murmur. They were also upset with the breeder and wanted to know if they should go after the breeder.

The consensus from our room is that our clients were very receptive and willing to start Lindy Hop on HWP. We were all pleasantly surprised because sometimes clients can give pushback on recommendations when they don't see a need for them. We found it helped to educate and even show Shiloh a picture of heartworms to further their understanding on why prevention is so important.

Shania: the client was very concerned, and they were sensitive to the information due to the passing of their recent pet. Overall the client seemed to be concerned with the future of PD’s quality of like. Ensuring that the client felt comforted and aware that she would be in constant communication and that she would be there every step of the way.
Alexa: the clients were concerned and they needed a lot of reassurance. She was able to calm the client down and ensure them that she will guide them through this process and continue monitoring PD. Reminding the client that overall PD looks great, and that we should just continue checking on him.

The client overall had a good response, they were very accepting of us referring out to a cardiologist and were thankful that we were able to catch the cardiomegaly on radiographs. Some of our clients had follow up questions as to why a cardiologist was needed and why the diagnostics could not be done by us.

SIM Experiences with recommending Lindy start heart worm prevention (Group 11)

Linked preventions to being pesticides, and that they do not want to put chemicals like "round-up" on their pet. After long, in-depth conversation, client agreed to use prevention

Client wanted to do their own research even though they were provided with research. Seemed more cautious and wanted to make their own decisions outside of the appointment and was given more resources to help their decision making.

Client was more understanding and had deep conversation in regards to heart worm prevention. Client was still apprehensive but not closed off to the idea of using heart worm prevention and actively listened to the clinician.

Client wanted to have deeper discussion on heart worms and what they were (are they really worms?), how they get there, and how does heart worm prevention work to stop heart worm disease? After a lot of deeper discussion we discussed how it feels weird to use chemicals that kill parasites on our pet and it be healthy but in the end they were very grateful for all of the details and explanations.
