The YouTuber I chose was PewDiePie. PewDiePie originally was a gaming channel, he would record himself playing games either by himself or with a friend and commentate on game play or any subject matter he felt like talking about. The audience was primarily teenagers who liked to play video games, essentially himself or someone he would be friends with. His audience has not changed a great deal, it has broadened to a wider age range and is not solely a gaming channel anymore, but occasionally he will make gaming videos. His appeal came from how genuine he was and his lack of filter that contributed to a personality that bordered between weird and funny. He made videos for himself rather than seeking to get more views and subscribers, and ironically that caused him to gain subscribers. PewDiePie created an atmosphere that so many people could relate to. Each video felt like going over to a friends house to hang out and play video games, but they only have one controller so you watch them play and talk to each other. Even though you are not playing the game you still have a good time. There is almost no production quality, videos are simply the game being played and a small video of him in the top corner commentating. None of that matters though, as long as you can see the game and here his commentary everything else is superfluous. He is a genuine person and thanks his viewers every milestone he passes and says how without them the channel wouldn’t be anything. He truly enjoys making videos because other people enjoy them, and it is a quality that is hard to put into words, but you get a gut feeling when someone is being sincere when they say all these things rather than saying them because it will make them look good in the public eye.
