Unknown artist. 304-30 B.C.
This piece was the most interesting to me because right away you are able to see that there is around 3 people. All of this was carved out of wood and it's amazing how much detail you can see. I would imagine it'd be difficult to carve so to see this one really stood out to me. You can even see the face that is carved out.

This is a unique example of the use of bronze for something else. This piece caught my eye because of the color combination I saw of bronze and gold.

This fiber art work caught my eye because the artist used an embroidery hoop as a base and built off the tool to create a whole landscape. This piece is the most interesting than other examples is because of the "thinking outside the box" aspect of it all. Just the mere fact it is built to continue with the green in a mountain like feature is absolutely amazing. I think it is the artist concept/idea is much more valuable with this art work because as it is a painstakingly long process, the idea she executed in her head was one that I haven't seen before; that's what made it so pleasing to see and why I decided to write about it.

This painting is a symbolic potrayal of the struggles of a worker in a modern, capitalistic world which is also seen today as well with many immigrants.

This terracota (type of clay) sculpture caught my eye because I grew up being Catholic and I believe in the Virign Mary and admire her a lot because she has helped me fight through rough times and that is why I believe in her a lot because she makes miracles if you have a lot of faith in her. This piece is really important to me than the other ones because again I admire the Virgin Mary a lot. This sculpture made out of clay looks really smooth and soft which I also love the colors that it is made out of and makes it outstand more.

I think more of the object comes from the time and skill involved with executing the idea.

This is a found art example that displays the artist, Glen Taylor's grandmother's china along with barbed wire to accompany it. This is more interesting then the rest because it is a beautiful china paired with what is suppose to be considered dangerous. From my understanding this is a fine line of safety and threat to a person because the cup is safe to use but barbed wire is not. Therefore this more valuable for its idea.

I also like how the fish bowl is not as detailed as the rest of the mosaic because it gives the idea that it represents water. I believe that the value of this piece comes from both the materials and the concept that the artist had. The glass is somewhat transparent and allows light to come through, which makes it more vibrant. The idea of the parakeets next to the fish bowl as well as the background makes this artwork look very peaceful.

I like how the artist was able to create an image of a human by using inanimate objects. The way the books are placed give them meaning and show that anything can be interpreted in different ways. I also thought it was a creative idea to use the book pages as hair. The curtain draped over the man’s shoulders make it look as though he is wearing a cape.

Early Dynastic Period. ca. 3100–2900 B.C.
This piece belongs to Egypt's historical period. During this period they were trying to master carving hard stone. This art stood out to me because of the quartz finish and how it is shaped into a lion. The value in this object comes from the skill and the idea that the artist had to complete this sculpture. This material stood out to me because of the shiny finish and the orange marble incorporated into it.

(Pictures will be at the bottom)

Porcelain- Johann Joachim Kandler “Goat with kid” 1732

This piece caught my eye because I love animals! What I Specifically liked about this was the detail and the illusion of movement. I can see the story behind the sculpture, I love the positivity I get from looking at this piece of art. I see a baby goat being kept care of by its mother while the baby is playfully leading on the mom, also find this piece of porcelain art being very detailed all throughout the sculpture. I say the value comes with the challenge it took to work with this material. It’s not easy and you can definitely see the time, effort, and skill this took just by admiring the perfection. I think this was difficult and had to be well throughout.

Glass- Lino Tagliapietra “Spirale” 2016

I love glasswork. I have such an appreciation for people that learn the skill and the creative process to think and do the impossible. Glass work is a delicate process that can only be done correctly with careful hands and practice. This is why this piece stood out to me. I know this artwork took an immense amount of time along with no room for messing up. The detailed patterns going all the way down to the thin lines cannot be done without years of skill and patience. I think the value of glasswork focuses on the patterns, color, light, style, shape, and uniqueness because none of this could ever be an exact replica.

Fiber/Fabric/Textiles- Sheila Hicks “Escalade Beyond Chromatic Lands” 2016-17

This piece stood out to me because of the colors along with the texture! I love the color balance, color choices, and the supple globes of fabric that make up the whole presentation. This piece takes up the whole wall with a downfall of colorful globes of fabric overflowing from bright colors to dark colors that’s in between two red tapestries. I believe this piece shows value in the size along with the color balance, there’s a message between the color fading from bright to dark. Also, the 3D materials used to make this artwork pop out.

Mosaic- Laurel True “you are here mural” 2014

This piece stood out to me because of the wide variety of different effects. You see eyes, lines, curvy lines, wavey lines, circles, plant shapes, and vibrant colors. I love mosaics too because of how much expression could be shown within just one stone that makeup of many to create such a beautiful design and could be the perfect outlet for expression, color, detail, and creativity if well thought out. This looks very time-consuming and descriptive but well done, definitely can tell by the quality of her work!

Wood- Alison Elizabeth Taylor “The Lookers” 2015

This piece says so much. This stood out to me because I feel this speaking about societal problems! When I look at this piece I see a woman and her company being disturbed by a Karen invading their privacy while the couple is trying to live their lives and mind their business. I appreciate the subliminal messages and detail of this work! The wood gives this piece so much life, movement, and feeling. This piece must have taken so much time to give such detail to bring this strong of a message. The color, movement, design, lines, facial expressions, and character. Absolutely impressive and executed perfectly.

I think this piece is so eye catching because the way he is able to create such depth and illusion using just spray paint is amazing. This was at a point in time where graffiti was admired by my peers enough to where their Jansport backpack would portray this. I learned how to draw a spray can because that's how it started.

This image below is the work of a glass artist named Carol Milne. I found Carols art so fascinating because just look at it, its so fun to look at! The artist began her career in 2000 and she experimented with many different materials before finding her talent in glass. Carols choice of such beautiful and vibrant colors always stand out in her glass knit sculptures, teapots, sculptures, and more.

Artist Vanessa Hogge is a London based artist who sculpts vessels and decorative wall objects called wallflowers covered in hundreds of delicate porcelain petals out of her studio in Cockpit Arts Holborn. Vanessas art caught my eye because honestly I want some!! Vanessa shows a gift the way she's able to put so much intricate detail to create something beautiful. Vanessas art work reminds me as if im scuba diving looking at all the coral. Vanessa is able to create these beautiful pieces of art by using porcelain and she typically takes a few hours on small pieces and anywhere up to taking weeks for larger sized vases.

Ben is able to create amazing pieces of art work such as this one which reflect the form of ocean ways along with various landscapes. Ben creates these works of arts by using concrete and glass together, as glass represents the ocean water and the concrete shapes the landscapes that Ben creates. The thing I found the most interesting is Ben is actually self taught, meaning yes he really taught himself how to create art work such as this one.

This piece in my opinion is better and more interesting than a lot of the others I saw, because it serves as a functional tool as a desk, but also has some decorative art on the side. What I found exceptional in this artwork is the intricacies in the woodwork and also paintings on the side. In my opinion, the value of this piece comes from the time, skill and difficulty involved with creating a piece like this. From past experience working with wood, it is a very hard medium to work with and on top of that Carlin painted beautiful complex decorative pieces on the side of the secretary.

She calls this series “Fleeting Parts,” and the effect is incredible from the marble emerges soft, human skin reminiscent of the mythic stories of transformation, such as Pygmalion and Galatea. “The hardness of stone in general is an interesting characteristic to work with,” Naef said. “It demands time and patience, which stands in contrast to my fast-paced life. Considered an archetypal masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance, it has been described as "the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world". The Mona Lisa's fame is the result of many chance circumstances combined with the painting's inherent appeal. There is no doubt that the Mona Lisa is a very good painting. Kaj Franck used blue/green glass, mould-blown, squat rectangular shape, with stylised cockerel-shaped stopper, white glass with internal splashes of colour, free-blown and tool-formed, with cork base. I loved this piece because of how unique it looked and how delicate the bird looks sitting on top of the cork. I strongly belive that this is a very vauled piece beacause of the fined details that was used for something so small. I love small items like these. It is a conversations piece and something that I would have in my own home or gift to my mom. Its simple and beautiful on its own.

The Coffin was created sometime between 700BC-680BC. It was found in Egypt and found it had been created out of wood paint. This piece obviously holds bodies but was it fascinating about the coffin is how detailed the outer shell is. The coffin was found between the 1850's and 1860's where it is now located in the British Museum. I admire this piece because when I was a kid, my dad was very good at making anything out of wood. He made me and my brothers a smaller pencil box that was in the shape of a coffin and had an Egyptian picture on the front. I have always been amazed at the lack materials that were used to create such historical art.

The Dish was created in 1983 from stone. Techniques that were used to make this piece was from pottery and ceramics. Those techniques helped create something abstract and unique. The cuts that were used to make this dish really makes it stand out and made me think, how can I display something like this in my own home. I am a huge fan of unique and different shaped items such as a dish like that. This is also something that I like that most people don't really like or have a liking to something like this. I like to call it "funky" but in a very good way. I think this piece is undervalued, almost misunderstood because it is a shape that not a lot of people can work with or are even attracted to. I on the other hand love the shape and color that it gives off. It is very earthy and natural looking.

The untitled self portrait of Frida Kahlo was created in 1940. She used a variety of paints to create her pieces. She taught herself how to paint at 18 years old after she suffered a serious bus injury. It was a therapy for her but also helped her financially. This piece speaks in high volumes to me because Frida Kahlo is a strong Mexican influencer that made people stop and view her self portraits. Not many people believe that she was the most beautiful person but her art work says other wise. Frida Kahlo's art represented life, death and the after life. She was not afraid to paint what she believed in. I respect her work because she is not only Mexican but she was vocal about her love for art and herself worth. Her signature unibrow is what drew me to love her work no matter how big or small. Her art speaks in high volumes that can be heard miles away.

The simple detail and smooth finish make the art feel very comforting and soft. The mother kissing and swaddling her child draws attention to a sort of loving emotion into this work. It is portrayed to me that the mother is hovering over her child in a protective position giving all of her affection to the baby. Overall I think the value of the art comes from the core idea the artist had while making this piece.

This piece was created between 1952-53 using spray paints and paints on canvas. There is not a lot of details about this art piece but one thing I do feel is that is has an understood message. My observation, it looks very dark and almost restraining or hard to get through and read. It gives off such a dark feel that may turn people away because it doesn't have bright colors. I think that this piece is something bigger then meets the eye. I believe that this is a piece that has tried very hard to break out of something so traumatic but they are still competing with themselves and are doing whatever they can to continue to break down the dark wall that is in front of them. It could also be ropes that they are trying to jungle their way out of. I enjoy this piece because of how the story is not fully told and how it can go into a million different directions of its true meaning. The textures of each spray paint lines, tells more stories then what is truly seen.

ca. 1886
New England Glass Company
This vase really caught my eye because of the colors used along with the overall design. I really enjoyed looking at the gradient of light peach to a deep rose shade. I think the lighter shade starting at the bottom of the vase and slowly getting darker in color as the vase gets bigger is very aesthetically pleasing. The bright colors feel very welcoming and as if the vase is blooming like a real flower. Although the shape seems simple, I think the overall value of the vase comes from the materials used considering the gradient in both size and color are what make this art complete.
(glass)

This painting caught my eye because I have always loved Frida and her paintings as well as her background. She is known for her passion for art, her vibrant colors, and her own self-portraits. Frida is celebrated in Mexico for her attention to Mexican and Indigenous culture. In my opinion this piece is more better than the same material becuase I like how she always did self-portraits of her self and I loved how she added the little monkeys to the painting. I think the value of this paining is just something different because even though she did other paintings she had the skill to paint how she saw her self which I feel is awesome. I feel like she was a very beautiful women even though her husband and others thought other wise.

This image caught my eye because it was described as a body image which to me was like a confident body image. I feel like this was my favorite photo out of all the other ones I have chosen because this marble figure helps with body positivity as it can with others as well. I have always loved seeing pictures of all different kinds of body’s that all have their own story behind it and I feel like that is why I love this figure so much. In my opinion this piece was better than the other examples because this one specifically was a way of showing body awareness and just to prove that no matter what size you are , you are still beautiful. I think the value of this figure had to be meaningful to the artist. I can be wrong about body acceptance but that is how I saw it.

In this Fresco image by Master of Pedret and year in A.D 1000-1400. This Fresco art caught my eye because when I used to live in Mexico with my family we would always go to church 2 times a week and on top of the roof their will always be an image of the Virgin Mary and angels which reminded me a lot of the churches there. In my opinion this image was better than the other examples because of how beautiful the image looked. I am a catholic so in our home we always have at least 5-8 images or paintings of the Virgin Mary. This art to me could have been like time consuming because of where it was painted at I can only image how difficult it was to do that.

The reason this stood out to me is because it is classic aerosol art the balance and form with in the letters are perfect and balance each other very perfectly. The classic use of spray paint on buildings is what really caught my eye and it is what separated this piece to all the others that I have found in the same medium. The way the letters are wrapped around is what gives it a nice aesthetic feel that is nice for the eye to look at.

It represents a Marmot, This piece really caught my eye because the gradient is so nice and the value that is seen in the shading of the marmot is really impressive. The use of the brown is a really nice contrast of the white background. This piece to me symbolizes what marmot's have to struggle with in terms of being hinted in Russia for their thick coats. A reach for the plum can be seen as a reach wanting a better future for the species,

It depicts the beautiful green mountains and waters of the Song Dynasty and buildings such as fishing villages and wild markets. The most important thing is that it comes from an 18-year-old talented painter named Wang Ximeng. "A Thousand Rivers and Mountains" is not only a milestone in the development of green mountains and rivers; Moreover, the collection since the Northern Song Dynasty ink landscape, and put the feelings of the creators into creation. Moreover, it is difficult for us to reproduce this painting entirely now. Although the artwork has been painted for thousands of years and its colors have fallen off, we can still see its gorgeous colors, which is enough to let us imagine how exquisite and shocking it was when it was finished. Because most of the pigments in this painting came from minerals from the Song Dynasty, which we can hardly find now, and we don't have the technology to grind minerals into pigments. What I like is the brilliant colors in this painting and the mood it depicts.

I chose this piece for the category Pen and Ink. Some may say that it's very simple to be considered exceptional, but I disagree. This piece caught my eye because of the warmth and familiar feeling it conveys despite the intense contrast between the shades. I personally think this piece shows off the material the best because it is very straight-forward. The value of this piece lies in the skill of the artist. From this simple piece, you can see how negative space, textures, proportions, and lines are utilized to effectively show the image.

This artwork is more interesting than other examples of the same material mainly because of the meaning it conveys. The monochromatic gray color scheme and the soft transition between the shades indicate a sad reality resulting from the destruction of nature by the humankind. The value of this piece lies in the idea and skill of the artist as he has successfully conveyed the urgent message.

What caught my attention was the tree structure itself. This piece is exceptional as it utilized the rare similarities in steel and trees: they are both flexible and sturdy. The idea is also genius because of how the material effectively conveys the cold feeling of a dead tree or a tree in winter. Additionally, the amount of work that went into building the complex tree branching and texture marked a high value for the piece.

This painting caught my eye because the use of shadows is beautiful and it has an array of different colors and three dimensional objects. This piece was actually damaged when it was found so some modifications have been made to the latch and on the front legs due to the wear and tear over the years. This definitely caught my attention because there is so much pristine detail that went into this woodwork and the color of the wood stands out a lot. I especially love the curvature of the rolltop desk along with the fine details on the metal accessories. The value of this piece definitely comes from the intricate design and woodwork that David created. Its beautiful, delicate, and so detail oriented.

Sarah worked hard on including a relationship because abstraction and representation. She believed that her artwork was impulsive, real, and imagined. Its safe to say that this piece of work does not use a typical horizontal orientation rather she describes it to be a “vertical phone screen”. I think this brings a lot of value to her artwork because it doesn’t follow the normal artwork others create rather it has her own flow and vibe. Its colorful, meaningful, and creates sort of a hallucinatory imagine.

While using old recycled bike parts and spray paint, Cole was able to be inspired by an antelope figure. He included the antelopes neck, horns, and elegant silhouette. He was able to reconstruct the bike into something beautiful and quite unique. I picked this piece because I have never seen anything like it. Its elegant, its eco friendly, and it has a unique twist. He was able to use minimal materials to create his piece and this brings significant value because its three dimensional, distinctive, and quite alluring.

Wood can be very dense and hard but when looking at this artwork, it looks very fragile. It must have been very difficult to create this piece because with one harsh movement, it would have fallen into pieces. I believe that the time and skill it was to come up and execute this idea was the hardest goal.

I have seen people spray artwork on the streets of San Francisco and they make it look so easy to do but I know that if i ever tried, it would not look like the image below. This artwork is amazing because I know that a lot of the time when people do spray paint art, it is like a "go with the flow" type of situation and being able to see that artists can think on the spot and create amazing art like this is mind-blowing. I believe that it is the concept of idea that the artist has to make this work because like I mention before, they think on the spot.

This ceramic artwork caught my eye because I had tried doing ceramic art in the past when I was in high school and it was very hard to do but seeing how Christopher Presser executed this was mesmerizing. The detail and how the wave thins out towards the top of the bowl looks amazing. Aldo how the bow does not connect at the top to show the motion of the wave is great. The material and idea of this piece is the most difficult because with ceramic you can make anything you like but molding it, the way you want is exceptional.

I believe the material is valuable in this idea glass seems to be a difficult material to use in art since you have to work fast with it.

Commissioned through the Enard firm in 1840, this piece was made out of oak, spruce, and wood veneer. A few pieces also contain metal, but the oak and spruce wood are the majority of the piece. Oak is generally used on most rectangular pieces of furniture, such as tables or wardrobes, so it was incredible to see an intricate piano like this from a common wood like Oak. There are many details on the piano for mythology, such as displays of Persephone and Ceres. The value I believe stems from several aspects of this piece. The wood itself would not be of a super high price compared to other woods, but the sheer detail and unusual shape makes this piece stand out compared to other, more elegant oak furniture pieces. There is historical value with the Foley family, and there is value in the purpose of the art--music.

This porcelain who is by Edouard Honore ave made in year 1824/1853. This caught my eye because I honestly never seen a plate so detailed and beautiful. In my opinion I feel like this porcelain was better than other similar examples because other exAmples were of fancy vases but to me it wasn’t something different and after seeing the plate it gave me a WOW factor and honestly I would want to know if these plates are to eat on or just for looks? I think the value of this object is like an idea/ skill the artist had.

Found in Mexico and sitting slightly above 12 inches tall, this small sculpture could fit on a desk. Little information is listed from the Museo Nacional de Antropología, but the material seems to be an earthy material like stone and also andesite. This piece caught my eye as the style is very unlike most of the other sculptures of a similar era. Many focused entirely on human-like features, whereas this piece is influenced by an animal. It is rather mysterious as there is little detail on the piece from the listed exhibit, which makes this ferocious beast all the more mysterious or perhaps significant in a spiritual manner. The historical aspect and well preserved condition must yield it high value, as there are few similar pieces for comparison.

Many similar pieces in the Edo time period had a closer frame of a subject, such as a mountain or an ocean wave, but this piece steps back to reveal a larger vision. The composition, color balance, scale, and historical context all bring value to this painting. In addition, it is simply aesthetically pleasing to the human eye in a calming manner, perhaps due to the shades of blue used in the ink.

The glass seems to be suspended in other pieces of glass, almost like it is pregnant and the work as a whole, to me, is beautiful, soft and very feminine. It made me think of the women in my life, especially my wife, and her beauty, strength and grace. The technique is what makes this piece different from other works I've seen. I think the value of this piece is both from the concept that the artist had as well as the skill involved in making it. I do not believe that many others would be successful if they tried to recreate this piece. (The artist is male, which I was surprised by, but that still doesn't change my opinion that this work looks like an ode to women/femininity.)

Material: Yarn
No known artist is given, but it is a piece that is believed to belong to the Denésoliné (Chipewyan) of Brochet; Northern Region; Manitoba; Canada. The piece was crafted sometime between 1927 and 1980. These clothing accessories are much more recent than the other arts listed so far, but they catch my eye for a variety of reasons. My first thought was how similar it felt to some art-like patterns you see on many modern materials, such as hacky-sacks or even some cat toys. However, the yarn in this art predates the other examples and was crafted in a more remote region. The value of this material might not be as high as some other culturally significant pieces, but native Canadian culture does not seem to be as heavily explored as other ancient communities and groups. I wonder about the cultural significance or if it might have just been used for a game during harsh winter months to keep occupied. It intrigues me due to the color vibrancy and questions I possess.

The jar itself is a beautiful shape, and the images on the jar are clean, well balanced and beautiful. I liked it more than other, similar works, because I liked that the tiger and magpie seemed to be communicating with one another. The shape of the jar with the wide top and narrow base also made this one interesting, as it gave the magpie more space than the tiger, helping to balance out the power between the two animals. I think the value for this item comes from the materials, the images, the skill involved as well as the age and historical significance of the jar. For being a fragile item that is hundreds of years old, it is still in one piece and the white is still white and the blue has not faded.

That's just eye-catching. The light shining on Daniel and the difference in values in the paining helped for it to catch my eye as well. There are a LOT of religious oil paintings, but I especially like this one because of the drama/emotion of the situation, the realism, and the fact that the scene as a whole is understood at a quick glance, but the longer you look at it, the more you want to keep looking. I highly recommend looking her up because so many of her works are really great, but this fish is the first one that I saw that got me interested in her work, so it's the one I chose to share today. It is a striking piece that conveys movement and vibrant, strong colors. It conveys a metallic, mirror-like object in motion quite well, and there are many urban details in the background. The strong use of reds and golds also draw the eye. This piece is unusual, as it also has an accompanying poem (seen above). It holds a lot of value due to still being within copyright and having limited distribution rights, as well as a striking image that conveys American history. I believe a lot of value is held in its technique and style, which were stunning for the time and aged well.

It tips to one side more to get a good pour out of it. The gold, white, and pink on this pitcher all come together well. I find this art to be exceptional because you would normally see it in a painting or drawing. I believe the value comes from the creative idea of the artist for it to be an animal instead of a human. Also the time it took to sculpture it since it's with concrete. I know it drys pretty fast, and gets stuck to the skin.

More of the value of the object comes from the absolute reverence that this Buddha was made in, given excruciating level of detail on the body and wood leaves that flank it. With fine zig-zag lines and a floret pattern carved onto the lid. This shows the artisan was skilled for the particular reason that it takes special attention to be able to carve precise lines you have to be a skilled craftsmanship. It’s a skill, but also an art. It is a beautiful artifact made from ivory. No, this piece was not better than the other pieces I chose because of the simplicity and the material alone is its value.

Qing Qianlong period 1736 -1796
This is a unique work of art because there are 17 different glazes and 12 different powder patterns on this single bottle. It's challenging to do 17 different glazes on a bottle, so I have a lot of respect for the craftsmen who made this bottle. The value of this bottle comes from the difficulty and technique of making it. It takes a great deal of skill and experience to make each glaze perfect.
