The Nazis, led by Adolf Hitler, imposed many laws that gave Jews few to no rights in. Books written by Jews were burned, synagogues were destroyed, and Jews were arrested and held in concentration camps simply for being who they were. The "Night Of Broken Glass" in November, 1938, marked the night when almost 100 jews died and thousands more were captured. The Nazis had taken control of most of Europe. The only major country left was Great Britain. In an attempt to weaken their air force, German forces bombed Britain for several months. However, Hitler had underestimated the power of the British Royal Air Force. It soon became clear that there was no way to defeat Great Britain. In an attempt to take back France from the Nazis, forces invade France. Although the mission was a success, the U.S. lost many soldiers. Eventually though, the Germans retreated.
