This poem uses a tree as a way to portray a “secret keeper.” This poem explains how a tree dies slowly and is full of its burden of tales which can compare to many teens in today’s society with the amount of gossip that goes around. It’s always that one person who knows all of the secrets, but it only takes one moment of guilt or stress that releases them all. For example, “Roots finally curl, glad to be underground,” these two lines show how relieving a person could feel after getting all of the loads of tales they know off their chest. When “reading” this title it catches the reader's eye because it’s a unique title a reader would not see. This poem might seem simple and complex at the same time, but it's interesting. The poem mentions, “With intentions of a vampire…”, “she’s just out for a little dessert,...”, “You didn’t even notice.” These lines show that this lady is out looking for something with great intention, but she does it without anyone noticing. The vampire and dessert part sounds like she’s out to kill. This lady has possibly done whatever she is doing plenty of times with no problems because the poem states, “She isn’t about to mention the millions she’s done…”

Reading this title instantly gives the reader the thought that something must have occurred out of nowhere. The title makes the reader think about what could have happened, was it positive or was it negative? After reading this poem, you could tell that something bad must’ve occurred due to the mentions of death. These four lines in this poem state, “Death’s moved into the neighborhood, made itself a welcome plate of brownies,” and “Lately, it’s been going up and down the street delivering letters on ways we can organize,” these lines show the reader that whatever is causing these deaths spreads in the neighborhood. Another note that could be made about this poem is that the cause of these deaths happens to a majority of elders because the poem states, “We’re giving death reports to our children…”
