End all forms of discrimination against women and girls 

• Legal frameworks to promote and monitor equality and discrimination 
  1. Equal pay?
  2. Is marital rape criminalized?
  3. Do married men and women have equal rights to property?
  4. Are women who are married required to obey men by law?
  5. Are there laws for paid/unpaid maternity leave?
  6. If a women testifies does it carry the same weight as a man?

Eliminate all forms of violence against women (trafficking, sexual and exploitation) 

Eliminate harmful practices (forced marriage, early marriage, genital mutilation)

Recognize unpaid and domestic work and promote shared responsibility in the household and family 

Ensure women are able to participate and have equal opportunities in decisions for political economic and public decisions.

Ensure access to sexual/ reproductive health rights

Equal rights to economic resources and ownership/control (land, property, financial services)

Enabling technology to empower women

Strengthen the policies and legislation to help in promotion of gender equality

A step in ending poverty, in some countries women:

• are more likely to be in poverty 
• are not aloud to work
• Not allowed to own land 
• Not allowed to have access to finances 

Can help in boosting economies, some examples if women participated in the economy:

• French: would grow by 17%
• Japanese: would grow by 14%
• US: would grow by 8.7%
• India: would grow by 27%

Improve global health 

• 830 women die a day from preventable complications of childbirth 
• Many women do not have access to reproductive healthcare
• Many women are discriminated in hospitals 

Improve access to education 

• 132 million girls are not able to have access or complete education 
• Having access can improve: nutrition and child/maternity mortality

• During present time with isolation due to COVID-19 intimate partner violence (IPV) has been on the rise. A nurse can help to reduce IPV by advocating for the patient in screenings and providing support.
• If there is a thought that a women/girl is being used in trafficking make sure to advocate for them and provide support.
• In the healthcare setting nurses can be discriminated against in pay even though women make up about 90% of the nursing career. By supporting coworkers in rising into leadership positions they are able to push for equal pay.

• If a women is involved in trafficking or violence they may be reluctant to speak out about it which can lead to:
  1. The patient not speaking fulling about their current health condition can lead to missing information and possible misdiagnosis 
  2. The patient being unable to speak if their partner/trafficker is present  
• Due to unequal pay it may hard afford healthcare leading to health conditions worsening or not being diagnosed early enough or at all
• Nurses have bias’s which can effect the way care is given due to assumptions rather than facts which can cause disruption in care
  • Early marriage 
  • Genital mutilation 
  • Not seeking care soon enough
