This is most evident through Conor's interactions with the other bandmates. It is clear from the start of the film that Conor has a hard time adjusting to his time in his new school, Synge Street CBS. Darren proves to be a good friend and positive character when he helps Conor settle in and gives him advice on how to avoid getting bullied by Barry.
Another example of a positive friendship is the friendship between Conor and Eamon. Darren's entrepreneurship and ambition to recruit the talent Eamon for the band is the direct cause of the pair's friendship. Conor and Eamon's friendship grows considerably throughout the movie and we see many examples of their friendship. One example that reflects this is when Conor visits Eamon's house alone to get help writing his song 'Up', the love song he wrote for Raphina. 
I think the theme of friendship is common throughout the movie and can be argued to be the main theme after the bandmate's success.
