When people ask Tan Le, where she is from, then she says that she is from Australia, but originally she is from Vietnam.

Her family and her fled from Vietnam on a boat and were saved by an oil rig. She learned a lot from that trip, and she became Young Australian of the Year, where she didn't think she fit in, because she came from a poor family, and all the people she met were rich and not like her. 
She has performed TED-talks about her story and identity formation.
2) She says she's from Australia because she knows that the actual thing they want to know is where her accent is from, and why she is different. Also because she sees herself mostly as an Australian, because she has lived there most of her life.
3) She finds it very odd, because she doesn't fit in with the other famous people. However, she does not see it as a bad thing.
4) In one world she is a classic Asian student, and in another world she lives as poor and experiences violence and drug abuse, as well as her mother and family experiencing the relentless mental consequences of fleeing Vietnam. 
5) She feels like an imposter or fraud because she doesn't feel like a proper Australian because of her not fitting in with the rich community, that she is a part of. Perhaps she does not feel worthy enough to be part of it.

As a four-year-old girl, she, her sister, her mother, and her grandmother escaped from Vietnam in a boat to Australia. Now, she lives in San Francisco.
2) Tan Le answers that she is from Australia when people ask her where she is from because she practically lived her whole life in Australia and perhaps she can not remember anything from Vietnam.
3) The position she achieved made her feel like she lives in parallel worlds. She also felt different when she visited multiple houses in Melbourne since they were more expensive than her own clothing - not only the house but also the paintings, the cushions and the wine.
4) She felt like a fraud since she never felt like she belonged to Australia even though she was named Young Australian of the yar - only some part of her did. This just shows us how she was influenced by her escape; The parallel worlds. She feels like an imposter or a fraud because in one world she was the classic Asian student and in another she was affected by a world of precarious lives, and as Young Australian of the year she had to speak in venues and homes she couldn't have ever imagined, which makes her feel uncomfortable because in her opinion she isn't entitled to be in that place due to her poor and precarious background.
