could be that the ladder is the path, stars are the dreams. So since the tools each person tried to get the child to use their tools and have the same type of way the hat was. Basically wanted him to grow up like on of them but that didnt work out. so he chose to be different and for the stars (dreams) to be formed in. which indicates how the moon is shaped.
