The new and improved LitCamp is a K-5 summer literacy program designed to accelerate student achievement. By integrating proven Science of Reading principles with an engaging summer camp experience, LitCamp builds the foundational skills, fluency, and knowledge campers need to thrive next year. Plus, its authentic books and fun camp theme are sure to keep students excited and coming back for more.

Science of Reading Aligned

Scholastic worked with top researchers in the field of literacy and Science of Reading to build a curriculum that features daily foundational skill, fluency, and knowledge-building opportunities for campers.

Read-Alouds are addressed over the course of two days or two lessons to provide opportunities for close reading and build knowledge with connected text sets featuring additional trade books and decodeables.

Campers have pre- and post-camp check-ins of their word reading skills. Leader’s Guides contain rubrics that assess campers’ comprehension, engagement, and more.

Opportunities to assess campers' progress are woven throughout LitCamp lessons and activities. There are of diagnostic and formative assessments throughout the program, and include:

Foundational skills check-ins at the start and end of LitCamp

Fluency check-ins with decodable passage readings

A variety of comprehension checks
- Monitoring student participation during the Go Deep discussions after Read-Aloud
- Conferring with campers about their Bunk Time reading
- Daily writing about reading activities
- Think More book check-ins to assess higher-order thinking skills
  - There are Think More quizzes for every Read-Aloud and Text Set book

How are LitBits earned?

LitBits Feed: Here are some activities for which students can earn LitBits:
• Accomplishing each of their weekly goals (2 LitBits per goal)
• Exceeding a weekly goal (2 LitBits)
• Completing a book (2 LitBits). Note: A student must go to the Reading Log and mark a book as finished for it to be listed here. (See page 68.)
• 100% correct on a Think More (2 LitBits)
• Creating a reading streak of 3 days in a row, at least 10 minutes each day (3 LitBits)

How do students access Literacy Pro and the Scholastic Reading Assessment Grades 2 and up

The Scholastic Reading Measure has been assigned and should be administered to your students by June 30. You can allow students to take it in incremental sittings. If they need to take it over a few days, it will allow the student to pick up where they left off.
