The word that Bradbury uses to describe the boy is "You're the heart of the army." The author is telling the boy that he is the heart because of his drum and his beat. The boy is keeping the men steady and at beat like they should be because without him they would be a mess. The author is also telling the boy this because the general used to be the drummer boy and now he is the general and without him he wouldn't be the general because the men would not be one and as one they are united. The general has also told him that he will be the next general because he kept the men in line and he is just like the General now.

This word means that he is deeply serious. He uses this word to described him because he i a fourteen year old boy who is about to go into a war. The evidence that i found to support my claim is on page,169 it says ," His face, alert or at rest, was solemn.
