All folktales are longer than fables. Folktales have to have a moral. Folktales must have one or two main characters. Folktales characters don't have to have characters from nature. Folktales also have opposing characters. But most folktales follow the rule to have characters from nature. In the folktale " Roadrunnner's dance ", it teaches the lesson never give up. Anybody can use that lesson but, you have to figure the lesson out in folktales.

The lessons that folktales teach can be used by anybody, not just the characters in the story. For example, respecting your elders was taught in "Martina the Beautiful Cockroach" when Martina listened to and followed the advice of her grandmother, which landed her a husband! But anybody can use that lesson. I know to respect my grandmother when she gives me advice about cooking and baking because she has made WAY more recipes than I have and they are always good!
