SEL602 MODULE 7 FA22 Final Project Gallery by Prof. Dauph

The final project will be an electronic or paper survey for colleagues inquiring about a shared colleague initiative such as a Book Club, Action Collaborative, or Self-Care affinity group. You will also provide a reflection on what and how you might use this for climate support and/or shifts, which can be used as part of your final capstone project in the Fall. Please post your survey here via a word doc, PDF, or link (e.g. Google, Survey Monkey), and provide a brief reflection paragraph that explains how you anticipate using this survey, and its associated group actions, as part of larger goals in your work setting such as finding an affinity group for yourself, supporting teacher/staff wellness, creating collaborative professional development, or informing a larger school-wide SEL initiative, to name a few examples. This is a short blurb and not as long or as formal reflection paper you are also being asked to submit. The survey and reflective blurb should be posted no later than 12/13. (The formal reflection paper is also due no later than 12/13) via the Blackboard Assignments portal for Module 7.) I encourage the class to check in on the board to see what others are doing as a way to enrich your own experiences and take-aways for the course. As always, you are encouraged to comment on one another's work.

In January our conference day's Keynote speaker is delivering the message on making connections, empowering educators, and establishing a belonging culture. I felt that the book study invitation would be a great follow up to keep our momentum going. (Invitation is below)

The purpose of this opportunity is to promote teacher and staff wellness. The book study invitation will include why I choose to read this book and what I learned from it in a email to all staff. This in attempt to make a personal connection to other staff.

Those interested in the book study would then be sent this survey that I attached as a link for you all to view. It is intended to help me assess the self-awareness that the group brings with them. This will help me lead the conversations as we move through the book.

Ultimately, after the book study this group could become a self-care affinity group. I also hope to begin Onward in June for growth in Resiliency.

Thank you all for the great feedback this semester! See you next time.

I will be focused on a monthly meetup across a variety of classrooms/spaces. My hope is to engage staff in conversations, professional or personal, that will leave people feeling seen, heard, and appreciated.

I considered articles or a book group but believe with the full plates staff are currently working with, I decided we need an opportunity to breathe and be. This group needs would change from visit to visit. In our school community we rarely connect or visit each other’s spaces. This would be a social and/or professional opportunity for anyone interested.

Hello everyone, I designed social and emotional support. This group will serve as a safe space for teachers to talk to one another about common issues and struggles they face and to find ways to support one another combat those hurdles. The topics of discussions and issues will be kept confidential and within a safe group. The group will have a designated time to “air” out the things weighing them down, find ways and strategies as a group to address the issues and concerns, and revisit the following week to check on progress. This group is designed to teach strategies to identify and recognize internal emotions and to learn different strategies/methods to reestablish one’s emotional well-being to be in its optimal state. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

The link for my survey is
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScclpi8G-VN0nWxhIFA6glu1yvwVAtWDiXBSomlgcKDZB8YmA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Our school is currently undergoing an addition to the building, and when complete, will include a breakroom that is exclusively a space for staff. My proposal is to create a space that is rich in social-emotional learning for teachers and caters to our self-care needs. Some examples of SEL activities are materials for journaling/doodling or writing/poetry, self-care goal-oriented calendars and checklists, self-care articles or literature, a recipe or book share, and wellness meet-up opportunities. My hope is to inspire my colleagues to share what their self-care needs are, and encourage collaboration in prioritizing our social-emotional wellness and self-care as educators.

Mindfulness Practices

I anticipate giving this survey as part of supporting teacher/staff wellness and to help fulfill their needs for acceptance, understanding, and compassion. I also strive to build community and provide support for faculty/staff’s well-being and balance.
The survey would give me an idea of what the needs are at my school for a group that comes together to practice mindfulness. Within the survey I ask if they might prefer a professional development session about mindfulness practices. I did this because some people don’t feel comfortable practicing mindfulness as a group, but might want to try it on their own. We currently do not have any SEL teacher/staff initiatives at our school, and I think we would benefit greatly from them. My hope is that by putting myself out there, talking about my journey, and offering to help, it will create a domino effect of self-care/resilience conversations. And with that, more time and space for the hard working teachers/staff to take care of themselves.
