For me Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships and building greater understanding between all Australians. It is about recognising differences between all people. With true Reconciliation we understand and acknowledge different cultures, beliefs and traditions. Acknowledging Aboriginal people as the First Australians and learning from their History is paramount to moving forward as a united and respectful nation.

For me Reconcilation is about all belonging together regardless of differences in race, culture or beliefs. We as a whole country can embrace each others culture and traditions and celebrate as one. It is about having mutual respect for each other and coming together as one big family. It is about everyone having opportunities to grow and learn.

Reconciliation to me is a journey towards stronger relationships between all Australians based on respect. It is about understanding and valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, rights and experiences. Reconcilation is about acknowlegding past hurts and ensuring they don't happen again. We need to remember that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage are a proud part of a shared national identity.

Hi, I'm Sophie. I'm in year 5 and 10 years old turning 11 in August. What I would like to say to the community is that we should always try our hardest and be kind. We need to be kind to all people of all cultures, especially Australia’s first people. We have a lot to learn from their culture and experiences. Some sad things have happened to them and we need to make sure they don’t happen again. A lot has happened since the early days of the people’s movement for reconciliation, including greater acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights to land and sea, understanding of the impact of government policies and frontier conflicts, and an embracing of stories of Indigenous success and contribution.
