As the civil war was raging on, and no one looked like a clear winner. Fredrick Douglas tried too convince Lincoln to make the war about Emancipation and freeing the slaves, Although Lincoln was hesitant on acting on that. He may have been forced to because Britain and France are not getting their supply of cotton from the south. They may interfere with the war in favor of the confederacy, so on Jan 1, 1863 (New year's Day). Abe would finally sit down and help write the Emancipation Proclamation, to ensure, that all black men, women, and children were free.

The Start of Civil war.... 1861-1865

As the nation Split into two the two different size began to show One the Union/North and the Confederate/South

both ready for war. the north, on paper was great. More industry, railroads, soldiers, and money. But the south had better generals but the North had a plan, the Anaconda plan was a 3 step plan for winning the war for the north. Step One: A blockage of the southern ports would starve the south. Then Step Two: capture the Mississippi River and split the south in two and separate the rest of the south for their supply of food, Finally Step 3: the main Force (Army of the Potomac) to take the capital of the confederate states Richmond V.A. BUT the Souths Strategies was just a play defense they didn't have to attack the North just defend themselves.

The Siege of Fort Pulaski Apr 10-11, 1862

Destruction of this Fort completed the Unions main goal of their 3 step plan As North is preventing trade and supplies with Great Britain getting to the south also it came with a price for the Union with 504 dead, 1,881 wounded, 1,413 missing or captured of a total of 8,500.

The Battle of Chickamauga, the biggest battle ever fought in Georgia, took place on September 18-20, 1863. With 34,000 combined casualties, it is generally accepted as the second bloodiest engagement of the war; only the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, with 51,000 casualties, was deadlier.Although a small force of Confederates briefly turned the enemy troops left, Union reinforcements drove back the Southerners. Sherman's Atlanta Campaign May 7-Sept. 2, 1864

On may 7, 1864 General Sherman would start his campaign on the key city of Atlanta Which he called "the heart of the Confederacy as a number of battles were fought. (Resaca, Dalton, Kennesaw Mountain,Peachtree Creek, Atlanta and Ezra Church) Famously it would only take him 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days. but need because Atlanta was the transportation hub of the Confederacy with more railroad than any other Southern state. a key city for a North victory in this war

Sherman's March to the sea Nov. 15-Dec. 21 1864-1865

As general Sherman captured the key city of Atlanta he left burning it also leaving he's supply line, and with over 62,000 men. Marching through the countryside of Georgia living off the land marching from Atlanta to Savannah. as they marched they tore down railroads,burned crops, buildings, breaking down communications and tearing up railroad to make Sherman's neck ties. in he's war strategy he called Total war. Doing this general Sherman would hope it would crush their will and capability to fight. Soon on New years day he would offer President Lincoln with over 5,000 pounds and the city of Savannah as a gift.

The 13th Amendment passed/Ratified Jan. 31 1865

After this civil war ended the 13th amendment was passed on Jan. 31 1865 granted enslaved people there freedom for slavery it was also ratified, meaning all southern states had to sign the document

Freedmen's Bureau Est. Mar. 3 1865

the Freedmen's bureau was an organization that was built to help people after the war, mostly blacks freed slaves as the help provide food, working able jobs, legal aid, buildings like schools and hospitals. The freedmen's bureau stated with Union Army General Oliver O. Howard, the Bureau started operations in 1865. Operations slowed in 1868, and from southern hate congress was forced to stop operations in 1872. with out the help of the bureau the slaves, and people in the south would be lost and although it was a short time they were helpful to almost 4,000,000 millions people

Established in Pulaski T.N. the Ku- Klux- Klan or otherwise known as the (KKK). Is terrorist group that's main goal is terrorize and Intimidate blacks, to keep them from voting and to establish

white supremacy. then would later lead to more problems for blacks and sooner lead to segregation.

the 14th Amendment passed jun. 13 1866

On June 13, 1866 was the day that congress would pass a law that all black men, women, and children would have the rights of any other citizens in the States, Stated in the 14th Amendment. And all thanks to a man named Dred Scott. Scott was a slave when he was born in Southampton County V.A. when his owners moved to Illinois were slavery was outlawed So Scott when to fight in court fought for he's freedom in the court case Scott v. Sanford,in the case the Supreme court ruled against Scott and even said that "enslaved people weren't citizens, Therefore could not fight in court" they said it was "unconstitutional" although this happen after the civil war black people would be named citizens
