         <description><![CDATA[<p>On April 12th, 1861, P.G.T. Beauregard and the Confederates  decided to fire on Fort Sumter in South Carolina's Charleston Harbor. There were no casualties on either side in this attack. The Union surrendered and were seen as heroes.</p>]]></description>
