"For some educators, these beliefs are rooted in a holistic perspective wherein the purpose of education is to help all children reach their full potential in every facet of their

lives. Other educators' beliefs, however, are rooted in more essentialist models that position schools as places in which students acquire knowledge critical to becoming productive members of society. Still others believe schooling should envision a new society, help students become lifelong learners, or enhance the students' individuality."

As a future school counselor, I believe it is important to remind myself specifically as to why I want to become a school counselor in the first place. This context from the reading broadens my perspective on the different beliefs that educators may have. In relation to me, I can relate more towards the holistic perspective and the perspective that students are to become lifelong learners and enhance their individuality. It is a reminder that we are all different in unique ways and that's okay, as long as we are working in the best interest of our students.

This is something I tend to do a lot in education, instead of forcing them to behave. I respond with care and try to find the rot of the problem/situation and how can I assist in them behaving better. It works better for engagement and developing a better student/teacher relationship especially in PE.

"When educators believe the source of behavior problems is a lack of competence as opposed to an attempt to usurp control in the class, they tend to respond with more

caring and are more likely to help those students achieve competence."

This may be true to some extent. I can speak for PE, I like to adapt to change as much as possible as long as it is good for the student well being. One I'm trying to implement is a technology with Physical education which can be difficult at the time but as long as students are learning and having fun that's the mission.

"These beliefs are intimately tied with educators' sense of self (be it their identities or their teaching identities) is consistent across the literature, and, for this reason, beliefs tend to be resistant to change."

When i first got into teaching, id thought it would be an easy job due to the subbing experience. I learned so quick that being the main teacher in the classrooom/setting can be tough at first to juggle so many personalities and maturity levels. Once your shoes get wet, it becomes easier as the year(s) pass by. I wouldn't change it for the world

"Teaching is unusual in that those who decide to enter it have had exceptional opportunities to observe members of the occupation at work; unlike most occupations

today, the activities of educators are not shielded from youngsters. Educators underestimate the difficulties involved, but this supports the contention that those planning to teach form definite ideas about the nature of the role."

There will be times that the plan that you once implemented during a day or week will be altered. But at the end of the day being a teacher is very impactful for the next generation and it is our job to make sure they are learning effectively.

"At the most local level, educators hold beliefs about themselves— who they are in relation to curriculum, colleagues, and students; perceived strengths and

weaknesses; values; self-efficacy; and matters about which they feel responsible."

All educators have their own beliefs and are different in many ways. I feel they have to keep in mind how their beliefs can affect others and to just be mindful because everyone have different perspectives on everything. In relation to a school counselor, they have to remember to advocate for the students and what's best for them.

(2) feedback— does the teacher offer evaluative comments on the pupil's ongoing performance? (3) input—

how much does the teacher try to teach the child? (4) output— how many opportunities does the teacher give the child to respond?”

Although teachers and counselors are different in many ways, I feel this is important for counselors to also keep in mind when working with their students. Especially with numbers 1 and 4. Counselors should be warm and encouraging as they need to gain trust within their students. I have found this to be effective when I used to work at an elementary school & during my fieldwork hours. Counselors should also make sure they give all students opportunities to resources and extra support if needed.

"The literature on educators' beliefs suggests educators

may simultaneously hold beliefs that are inconsistent, in conflict, and even contradictory and still see themselves as a teacher. Fred Korthagen posits educators are likely to be

the most effective when their beliefs are aligned with each other and with the field."

Educators can often be resistant to change when they have had the same beliefs for awhile. I agree that educators are more likely to be the most effective when their beliefs are aligned with each other and their field. If they don't align with their field, I often would question why choose that field in the first place? I have seen this often where teachers, counselors, administrative staff are unhappy with what they're doing and how their beliefs don't align with the field but they still choose to be in the field.

I think this is important as an educator because not everything is going to be a linear process when working in education. Feeling unpleasant emotions shouldn't be put on other people, but should be a learning process of how to react to a situation next time.
