The first two teachers have already returned from Prague, where they attended a professional training course titled Little Minds, Big Ideas: Reimagining Kindergarten Teaching.

We look forward to applying the knowledge they gained in our daily work with children and further enriching the educational process in our kindergarten.

S sodelovanjem v mednarodnem prostoru želimo pridobiti nova strokovna znanja, izmenjati dobre prakse ter razvijati različne pristope za delo z vsemi otroki.

As we are increasingly facing the challenges brought by a diverse social and cultural structure of our community, the number of children with foreign citizenship and those coming from socially and culturally less stimulating backgrounds is rising. Therefore, we have set two main objectives: Introducing new teaching methods required by multicultural environments and Successfully integrating foreign children into relationships with their peers.

Special attention will also be devoted to cooperation with parents. We aim to strengthen partnerships with families, encourage the expansion of vocabulary and the use of the Slovenian language among both children and parents, and support their social inclusion in the local community.

Through international cooperation, we seek to acquire new professional knowledge, exchange good practices, and develop diverse approaches to working with all children.

Our two preschool teachers attended the training “Smart Teachers Play More” in Iceland, where they joined educators from nine European countries to explore play based learning. Among other activities, they visited one of the newer schools with a kindergarten near Reykjavik, where they quite literally had to take their shoes off. Both children and teachers in the school and kindergarten go barefoot (wearing only socks). Icelandic well-being is not just a concept in theory. The teachers say that the positive and relaxed atmosphere can truly be felt. We look forward to sharing the new knowledge with our colleagues.

We visited kindergarten Vittra Rosjotorp International, where two preschool teachers and an assistant principal took part in a job-shadowing experience. The preschool has three groups of children and implements a bilingual programme in english and swedish. During the week from 13 to 17 April 2026, we participated in their activities and observed various teaching methods both within the preschool and in the surrounding environment.

On the first day, we became familiar with the preschool through a discussion with the principal and the assistant principal. During the tour of the preschool, we observed the equipment and learning corners in the hallways, which encourage language development and reflect the values emphasized by all employees of the preschool.

Pred kosilom smo spremljale učenje jezika preko pesmic in slikovnega gradiva, po kosilu pa čas počitka, med katerim so otroci na blazinah poslušali pravljico. Po zaključku pripovedovanja so se lahko prosto igrali.

On the second day, we observed how the oldest children are connected with the department intended to support the transition from preschool to primary school, similar to what was once known in Slovenia as “Mala šola.”

Before lunch, we observed language learning through songs and visual materials, while after lunch we observed the rest period, during which the children listened to a story while sitting on cushions. After the storytelling, the children were free to play.

On Wednesday, we took part in the morning outdoor reception of the children. We observed that the children were very physically skilled, confident, and independent, while the teachers showed them a great deal of trust. Afterwards, together with the oldest children, we visited the Natural History Museum.

V vrtcu nam je vzgojiteljica predstavila kotičke in mape, v katere beležijo vse o otroku in njegovem razvoju. Kasneje smo obiskale še skupino otrok, starih od 3 do 6 let, kjer smo opazovale prehajanje otrok med različnimi dejavnostmi, ki so jih vodile tri strokovne delavke.

On Thursday morning, we went with the youngest children (aged 1–3) to a nearby forest, where two teachers read a story. One teacher read the story in Swedish, while the other simultaneously told it in English. Afterwards, we went to a playground by the lake, where even the youngest children demonstrated a high level of physical skill.

At the indergarten, a teacher showed us the learning corners and folders used to document the children’s development and daily functioning. Later, we also visited a group of children aged 3 to 6, where we observed the children moving between different activities led by three educational staff members.

On the final day, we took part in a evaluation meeting for all preschool staff, led by the assistant principal. During the meeting, the educational staff exchanged opinions and collaboratively planned future activities. We also had a concluding discussion with the teachers leading the groups and with the assistant principal, during which we shared our observations, reflections, and compliments. In addition, we explored the wider surroundings of the preschool.
