The socs and the greasers don't get along

No matter what both greasers and socs cant change who they are

"In not going to show at the rumble tonight" Randy is tired of everything,he doesn't want to fight anymore.

"The pillow seemed to sink a little,and Johnny died" Johnny was the youngest and the gang'sgang's pet so they would all be sad to not have johnny around anymore

"We needed Johnny as much as he needed the gang"
This proves how everyone in the gang got along with johnny,he is the pain of loss when he is dyeing 

"Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold"
Here, Johnny urges Ponyboy to remain gold, or innocent.
